The TomCat training quest is 100% bugged. Any news on patches or a work around?
I've seen so many people with the same issue both on here and reddit. He wants you to use the up, right, left combo but no matter how many times you use it, he doesn't register that you did and just tells you "wrong direction". I've been coming back and trying it again over several hours the last few days and it's definitely a broken side-quest. On the topic of bugs, I've been playing for 20 hours and I've run into plenty, andI haven't started the wedding quest yet, but I've been seeing countless posts here and on reddit about it being bugged too because the game forgets to replace the stats of your opponent's wooden swords when they switch from their real sword for the competition. So you're fighting with a wooden sword that takes 10-15 strikes to win and they're fighting with a steel sword that can kill you in one strike because armor isn't allowed. The bugs aren't just annoying in this game, they make it downright unplayable, miserable, and lock content away.

What's the news on them patching bugs? Do they have any plans for damage control? It probably could have used another few months in development and the testing phase. But has anyone found a work around to these bugs? The Wedding I can always download a trainer for infinite health just to get through that bug, but since it's been this bad already before even starting the first main quest, I'm getting lots of anxiety about how buggy and unstable the rest of the game is.

what bug? works fine I think you maybe using the wrong joystick/analog triggers. I finished his entire training even before starting the main quest. It was extremely boring and easy to the point where I can slaughter entire forts all alone now. The combat is made for the Final Fantasy tap x to win crowd. Good thing the rest of the game is very well done love it.
Dumb and skillless people call it a bug ; cause they are ass lazy to learn the game mechanics. Next they cry that combat system is bad.

Skillfull players pass the quest in 30 seconds once they accept the rules and learn the game , timings;
So , get gut scrub (c) Viva la dirt league

Maybe it's because I'm not walking left like you did. I'll try that. When there are barely any combat encounters to begin with in the game, like with me I've only had 2 combat encounters in total by 20 hours in and didn't play the first game, it's borderline impossible to improve, especially when the game doesn't tell you anything.

We must be playing very differently. I seem to be getting into fights everywhere I go. I actively try to avoid picking a fight, and still end up in a fight most of the time.

I get ambushed when fast traveling and have to fight. I find thieves in the woods who want to fight. I go into town and try to help out an inn keeper, fail all my speech checks, and end up in massive bar fights.

Basically the first quest I did after the game opened up ended with me going into a bandit camp to save a guy's horse where I had to kill like 6 guys. The nice thing is I did end up in like full chain mail and half-plate right after the game let me start going wherever I wanted. Bad news was my strength was so low that I couldn't pick up an apple unless I wanted to throw some of my gear on the ground. Had to actually go barefoot for a while just to not be encumbered.

i was having a lot of trouble with the combat system until i got to the tomcat quest , his advanced combat tutorial really helped me out in understanding how it worked. There were no bugs in it all for me.

If you lock target on tomcat, you for some reason cannot do combos.
is the problem a PC problem? I cannot get the UP, RIGHT, LEFT thing to work, and I am on PC. Are those that have no problem also on PC or are they on a console of some description

I think it's a latency issue but I suppose it could be an actual bug...like the instructions he gives are not the moves the game requires.

if you're struggling with horizontal cut , its attack UP RIGHT LEFT not UPWARDS RIGHT LEFT, i got through it but i don't feel like it even functions right, as its some sort of upper right stab. they didn't follow through on this quest.

Zero issues here on PC.
Flew through the training with tomcat.

What I don't get is why sometimes the strikes don't hit him at all even though they should do? How can that not be a bug?

The Tomcat quest felt bugged for me too.

For me I am doing the proper rosette moves but to finish it will not allow me to (Tomcat says don't pause! Or, why didn't you follow through). I click the mouse button but my sword doesn't swing.
I have done the combo but it was pure luck! I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong and why after 3 mouse clicks it won't swing the sword.

Are you using mouse or controller?
I struggled with controller and then noticed the on screen direction indicators when pushing thumb stick up showed left or right and never up so either my controller is damaged or something else so I tried using a mouse.

With mouse the up direction showed as up with indicators and I succeeded that combo after a few attempts
