Back up saves?
So.... I think I did something.... bad....

I just came home from a long day at work and just wanted to relax a bit.
I launched the game, Thought I pressed "Load Game", selected the top one...

Aaaaaaaand the intro launched... It suddenly dawned upon me that I accidentally pressed "new game" instead.... My game run is broken..... in hindsight I should have just pressed the top "Continue" option... So.... Is my entire run kurva'ed?

To be frank, it's way too easy to wreck a run... It should be a thing where you need to long press a button to confirm that you are wishing to overwrite your game as a safety meassure.

Oh well... Guess I need to restart then? But not today, kinda knocked the will out of me today.

Press "load" in the escape menu?
1)Check cloud saves if they are a thing.

2)Check your save folder (it'll be in the hidden appdata folder inside the user folder, turn hidden folders on in file Explorer) to check and see if the saves are really gone.

3)Use a program like disk drill to see if you can get the saves back that way.

Also didnt the original support a while bunch of saves, this game only supports one? If it supports a bunch of saves, there's probably one master save file that got deleted and the other saves are still there.

Edit, or maybe it's just as simple as returning to the MM and pressing load, or pressing esc and load like the guy above said.

Did you not even try to click "load game" before posting this?

I know the whole thing about the general public becoming less and less tech savvy, but my god.

The "Load Game" for me is now greyed out. As in... there are no save games in the game... Why do you think I even made this post?

Auto saves never get overwritten. The save and quit might but you must have a save from whatever you did last or slept / quest stage

All good tips... Sadly KCD2 has been wiped from Cloud Storage, and while Disk Drill did find some files, it wasn't enough to recover the game. Guess I need to restart my adventure.

Not if you accidentally click new game and selected your current run... That wipes the entire run, not just a single save file.

I have no idea how so many people are overwriting their saves and starting new games. Continue is the top option if you already have a game isn't it? So how is this happen to so many people?

Edit: what you could try if this happens is don't close the game. Turn off your internet and then close the game so steam can't sync. Delete the save folder for the game in steam/userdata, use steamdb to find game id. Then connect internet and start game. It should sync saves back down from cloud

Now it happened to me too, 33 hours of gameplay are gone. I have no desire to start all over again, maybe in a few years.
It's poor design. How many times do you start a new game and how many times do you continue or load..
Same for me, tried to load an older savestate to see a different outcome, suddenly i got the intro cutscene, 63h wiped

Edit: dont use disk drill, it will ask you for money to recover and the recovered savestates dont work (Error message upon trying to load them ingame)

In the future I would keep a manual back up of your saves to avoid this. You can find the saves in the Users>Saved games folder.

I don't want to shill myself or anything like that, but idk... will my saves work for y'all? They are cheated saves with WeMod and Plitch pretty much from the start, so I'm almost maxed out.

But, if you don't mind that, and don't mind not having a totally legit save file, here you go?:

Up to where I am currently at in game. Have not started more just yet. I'm also using a bunch of you could say, minor mods. Idk if that will have an effect if you download it and are not using any mods yourself

my modlist:

if it makes any difference idk
