Criminality system for stealing is bad
No witnesses. No one spotted you.

Yet enjoy your bounty because the game magically knows you took something.

Seriously, did they put any effort into this?

Nah the system works just fine if you know how it works.
What do you mean lol. The whole game is bugged. Wanted sytem is bugged. Reputation system is bugged. Combat needs fixing.
If you play longer then 20 h this game is a mess.

Yeah it's kinda dumb. You execute a stealth mission flawlessly, and the next morning you're magically wanted anyway.
There is more to consider than just being directly witnessed now. I had to learn the hard way not to have my horse anywhere around me if I was doing burglaries, and to not wear stolen gear in front of the merchant whose chest I stole it from.

It doesn't magically know. But if you're wearing it or they saw you going where the item was and soon checked the place and the items were missing they will suspect you.

Wrong. It does magically know dude. I stole food. Left. No witnesses. Nothing. Came back to the town and boom, killed for stealing. This game is a joke and I want my money back.
Lol now we know you lying

I was trading with RAdovan. He had 45 rep. I save and quit. I come back into the game talk to Radovan again. Now he has 35 rep.

I loaded the game again and suddenly he's back to 45.

I'm telling you most of the systems in this game are currently bugged.

"OMG, do you have a hunting sword?!? Only 500 people in this 501 person village have one, you must have stolen it!!!"

It IS stupid. You steal something from the 3rd floor, go down to the first floor, they recognize that you stole a thing from them. And not only that, they also know what you stole 3 villages further away. Because don't you know - you can clearly recognize a piece of chicken being from a particular tavern. Same with apples - where else would you find one?!

It’s absolutely terrible. Skyrim had this figured out 15 years ago and these plebs couldn’t get it all these years later. For looking so realistic it’s one of the most unrealistic RPG’s I’ve played.
as long as your horse wasn't watching you, otherwise he would tell the guards. :steamfacepalm:

I bet you all are fast travelling into a town/riding in on horse/turning up in middle of the day and then committing crimes, you are a randomer, turning up into a town and then crimes happen, you are the first suspect for anything.

I have no issue by sneaking into a perimeter of a town, no horse/no fast travel, night time, low visibility stat, no noise, do what you want to do and leave without being seen, go to different area, wait couple days, sell items, kind of simple.

it works well. it doesn't "magically" know. but if there is loads of theft and you were in the area for example they will put two and two together.

The Miller questline is such a bad example to base the behaviour off of. It is a main line quest and is just part of the extended tutorial, you need to be "shown" how to knock out and pickpocket the quest before.
My assumption is that you are likely gonna be labeled the culprit no matter what, but maybe you can avoid it if everything goes perfectly, as a continuation of the crime and punishment mechanics. The fist fist at the pup and day in the stocks was more like an unavoiadable cutsceen rather than teaching the player anything.

You are the only new person these people see around, and then stuff goes missing. If they dont already trust you they will suspect you.

Good job you don't own it then eh? Not sure how they can refund you when you never bought the game. tricky.
Almost like you haven't played it and are making stuff up. :p

its working in difrend way >> no one spotted you, but short before crime someone see your horse around, or your face entering to this zone were 3 minute later crime is done.
exactly. the game explains this very well that this is what happens.

You do know people usually NOTICE their things missing right? Then they report it to the guard that they think it might get stolen.... This game is Immersive Sim, it's trying to be realistic.
if they havent seen you how can they know you stole it ? if you beeing caught in the act ok no doubt but how can they witness something they dont know? its a broken game mechanic and the devs know that ...
It explains ingame... You steal something, they notice it's missing and they remember they saw henry hanging around like a bad smell.

This is all mentioned in the game tool tips etc.

The crime system is pretty simple. If you're seen in a private area or tresspassing, or somenoe tells you to leave (like they see you acting suspiciously like going near a private area, you're seen without a torch etc etc), and you steal some item, you'll be fined. Guards will say something like "you have been seen where you're not supposed to be and there have been reports of missing items. We don't know if you've stolen anything but you will have to pay a fine and allow us to check your inventory for stolen items". If you're not seen anywhere you shouldn't be and steal, there will be no fine.

It's how crime should work. And it's how it is working for me. So I bet OP misunderstood or didn't notice what was happening.

Bull.

Got arrested for having my weapon out when helping a dude who got attacked by wolves.

Got my reputation ruined when defending myself from bandits and a passerby ran off to tell a guard.

Got my reputation ruined for attacking someone who was surrendering while my swing was already going through and killed him.

Got screamed at by the whole village for sitting down in a Tavern and reading a book because it was the evening and the Tavern was closing up and that hour pushed me over the edge into night.

Was fined for not having my torch out while smithing in the evening, once again tipping over to night I guess. Same with brewing a potion in the evening.

Was told I could sleep in a barn, slept in said barn, got woken up in the middle of the night for picking the wrong pile of hay. Spoke my way out of it, got arrested for trespassing anyway.

Got attacked by a "beggar" during the Cunker quest, a guard saw, and the guard decided to first kill the beggar and then me.

A woman got the guards because Mutt wasn't at heel, even though he was at heel. But if you feed your dog, it'll not count for being at heel and calling him to heel doesn't work then because he is at heel in the system, but the NPCs don't recognize it as such.

Picked up a sword from the ground after some bandit got killed and immedietly guards went hostile. (No steal symbol on the sword)

Oh yeah and also when I fought the two bandits asking the herbwoman about Hans whereabouts in the prologue, I buried both bodies, and the next day both woman screamed at me that I was a murderer, then ran off to the guards and told on me.

Also got fined for tresspassing when going into the yard with the shield for the grocer next to the smithy. You know, the shield advertising the grocer. The grocer who is at the other end of the yard. Where the shield is not.

Ate food in a bandit camp, from the pot, and got fined for stealing food. Even said "Bandit" in the section of the offended party on the thing you can pull up when you check for the crime when a guard speaks to you about it. A Bandit that was dead by the way.

Oh yeah also when you sharpen at a whetstone and finish up, a guard may scream at you to put the weapon away, even though it was put away automatically.
