When you reach "obsession" with alcohol, you'll get a pretty bad debuff - you can counter this by using Henry's Hair of the Dog potions (highest quality). This only lasts for a while though.

While it may seem like it's not going away - like in my case, where I downed a quite frankly obnoxious amount of moonshine in order to level up my drinking skill - it actually does, but the icon only goes so high, so whether you have 30 days left of your alcoholism, or 7, it will still be the same icon, appearing to not change.

If you do wait long enough, it DOES go away, but as far as I can see, you have to avoid ANY alcohol at all, which sadly includes Saviour's Schnapps, so you'll go through a pretty bad time, with only sleep-saves while detoxing, which, indeed, can take a very long time.

Also, I want to add that the buff goes from Obsession, to Need, to Demand to Desire to ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Appetite, and oh my god, Saliva. This can be confusing, as it looks as if the buff just resets.

Quick update, I had a slight slip-up during a mission while recovering (clicked ok to a drink), and it only added a few hours to the debuff, so while some people say that you can't drink anything at all during this period, it looks like you can. Hope this helps.

When you stay off of it for a long long time I'm thinking.

Remember that saving the game consumes alcoholics if you use saviour snapps.

Start stocking up on Hair of Dog Potions. It negates the addiction buildup and also doesn't let you get drunk so a safe way to train Drinking Skill.
It will go away slowly, I'm just on "Desire" stage and it takes like 5 to 6 days of being clean to loose half of the circle.

I just tested it, henry's hair of the dog will remove the addiction entirely, however, due to a bug sleeping will bring the addiction back. it has repeated this for the past 9 days i've slept at my inn with 0 consumption of alcoholic potions.

Not a bug
"Eliminates drunkenness, hangover and TEMPORARILY suppresses the effects of alcoholism."
The only way to get rid of it is time. Just sleep it off for a week.

when Henry's dog hair wears off entirely, the alcoholism should come back right?
top quality dog hair actually eliminates the addiction entirely until you sleep. even after the dog hair wears off.
I've been staying awake for 2 full days without addiction and without dog hair but the moment i went to an inn to save to avoid schnapps alcohol, the addiction came back.
once an addict always an addict

- I upgraded drinking from level 12 to 30 in one go. (3522h as alcoholic and got max stage of alcoholism)

- Before upgrading drinking, have the following perks:

Vitality (Ascetic, Revenant I and if possible II)

- Then you rewind time until your alcohol addiction is over, you don't have to sleep, eat or even drink a potion

- but sometimes sleep in bed, because the game may crash

And the only thing I can tell you is, be patient when rewinding xd
