But it can't masterstrike :'''(
Sounds interesting. I'm using my dad's sword at the moment, but each swing consumes a huge chunk of stamina. Any hint to get that Valentine's sword?
A certain "knight" north of Kuttenberg is very interested in "relics".
what part of ".....better if going without a shield" did you not understand.
as for stats being "much lower", the realty is there is much less between them when you look beyond base stats to your actual functional stats as a result of strength and agility etc and other factors, given tier IV Basilard has a lower requirement for agility and thus agility closes the gap.
It is for me - but longsword is my favourite melee weapon.
I only have a quality 3 to compare to and I am losing 54 slash damage, 77 pierce damage and 9 blunt damage with 24 strength and 25 agility. Basilard also weighs more, has less defence and less durability.
Quality 4 would increase slash damage by 19, pierce damage by 20 and blunt damage by 3. So Basilard would still offer less stats.
Ahh you found it too! I love the sidequests in that area including the one with a certain priest :D
range isnt a positive because its something that doesnt matter at all, and basilard and knights sword have the same length as longswords weirdly enough.
One handed swords have near the same damage stats, are faster, have INSANE perks buffing them, and are faster to swing. Plus you can use a torch with it. You can also use a shield with it, but shields are totally worthless, and it disables some perks.
Longsword has zero perks buffing it and its just worse than short swords, and then a tier 3 poleaxe outdamages longswords anyway, due to their insane damage stats. And then a mace would be better than a longsword too, since every single enemy wears armor past like... basically the intro, really, and then everyone has tier 3 plate in kuttenberg region.
(edit: I actually went and made a tier 4 dueling longsword, the best non unique longsword, and its incredibly bad compared to a tier 4 knights sword, which is a non unique short sword you can craft, although its currently bugged and the recipe doesnt work without a mod fixing the bug, but is confirmed to be fixed next patch.
Knights sword: 221 stab 253 slash 70 blunt
Dueling longsword: 246 stab 255 slash 47 blunt
this is with 27 warfare, 28 swords, 26+4 strength, 28+2 agility. No damage buffs active.)
So longswords are actually garbage statwise. The knights sword has so much more blunt damage, and the stab damage is worthless, because its so small and it pales in comparison to the blunt damage which is always applied, whereas the stab damage is ONLY for thrusts.
I haven't seen a single tier 4 blunt weapon other than axes so far and maces are missing some better follow up perks like green knight for axes.
I find maces/axes totally useless. They hit slow, use a ton of stamina, bad at defence and have no masterstrikes. I only use them to increase my general level lol and I am debating if I even want to sit through the constant block and attack with almost all enemies. I kill full plated enemies with 1 masterstrike. Guns and crossbows feel really bad too to use.
Personally, i recommend grinding alchemy because you can really grind the rest of the game much easier if you craft tier 4 fox potions as they give a 50% increase to all experience gained. This will make it much easier to max out alchemy. This is important to max yield because bane poison doesn't go very far on blades or arrows. It is however almost always lethal no matter how it is administered. On top of that, it saps the stamina of the afflicted so once you master strike them to get the initial cut in, you're free to go ham because they won't have the stamina to blow or even mitigate your damage with armor. It'll all go straight through and you'll kill them very quickly. Alternatively, you master strike each enemy then sit back and wait. They die within 7 seconds of a hit if you used Henry tier bane. The main difference between different bane poison qualities is how fast the 110 damage is applied. Weak poison takes 60 seconds iirc. Normal is 45, strong is 30, and henry tier is 15. All of them make sprinting impossible, have a chance to cause vomiting, and sap stamina.
Once you have henry tier fox potions, just keep popping them whenever they run out (they last like 48 game hours) and you'll be good. Focus your alchemy perks on the ones that increase the yield. At max level, you'll make 6 potions per run meaning 4 runs nets 24 potions. 24 fox potions will give you 48 in game days of 50% boost to all experience gain. Then you just read skill books while they are active and it massively boosts both the skill that book is in as well as your scholar skill.
I barely ever touch the alchemy table anymore and i have 50+ of all potions i think are useful on me or my horse at any time because any time i run low, i just do 3-5 runs of that potion and i'm set for literal months in game (or many days of gameplay IRL). The only potion i frequently restock is marigold decoction because it's such a powerful and useful healing potion. I like to fight up close even against large groups, so sometimes i take a good lick from a mace.
