Kingdom Come: Deliverance II

Thievery system is broken
Visited the shop during the day, accidentally walked past the counter triggering "you need to leave now" warning. Robbed and emptied the shop at night without witness. Now I have over 10k fines with the guard citing someone witnessed that I was lingering around and items went missing..... and that is enough to justify the arrest. Tried speech check several times but I think the amount is too high to pass the speech check.

Is there anything I could do? I dont want to reload the save because I completed several quests that very same night and only to receive this theft arrest in the next morning.

yeah even taverns are private areas, how am I supposed to interact then, stupid. One of the taverns (Black Horse Tavern) in Kuttenberg is a private area, even though all people are sitting outside and the bar maid is walking around, I get done for loitering everytime I go there?

whats even more stupid, even if they don't find anything you have stolen, which is nothing, they will fine you for that as well?? Makes no sense? So you get fined for not stealing. hahah

Even in the middle of talking with NPC's or having a game of dice. Need a mod to turn this off.

This is the system working. No approach will be 100% perfect but I really like that suspicion is enough. You did steal!
guards will connect the dots if you steal a lot of stuff. You happen to be new in a village then everyone gets their stuff stolen just after you arrived. Yeah they will do 1+1=2 and blame you

I agree with the poster, thievery is pretty much broken in KCD2. it's not even worth it because they always notice something and you around then you are wanted. If they wanted people to stop stealing, just remove it from the game, but it's redesign is overly punishing. Maybe add a mechanic i can frame somebody else by dropping some of another persons property nearby, or maybe the idea i can change outfits or have a visor on so i can't be identified. As for i am noticed, these medieval towns have no outside visitors? Is Henry the only stranger in the town? Give me a break for lazy, poorly implemented mechanics.

What they want you to do is to not steal too much at once so it goes unnoticed.
Guards only get suspicious if you steal a lot of things. I've been grabbing some things here and there when needed and guards never got suspicious of me.

Even if you don't get caught or seen they magically know you stole something.

Noticed it when I tried to up my bow skill on some boar - tadaaa I'm a poacher.

On top of that, if you knock out someone from behind, he'll notice you later on "I remember that face, it was you that knocked me out from behind" in a sense.

I mean I get it was rather easy to knock out people in their sleep where they can actually see your face but.... when I take someone out from behind, what? It's my smell? :D

There's a lot of issues with the economy in general in the game. You can experience that right off the bat with how there's no auto-brew anymore because it's technically infinite wealth.

And in the Kuttenberg region you get thrown super expensive gear that you have to sell over ~8 merchants that always have the same amount of coin.

The entire balancing is jinxed by the broken crime system.
While I understand that the game is WAY bigger than the last, and balancing on such a scale is... I can't even imagine how to do it, but it's - it just seems like there were too many people working on it without a proper guideline.

Upping skills is easy, stealth is easy, making money is easy - and then you get stupid mechanics to counter that.... it seems.

Afaic, the baseline of skill, value, etc. is just not there and circumvented by artificially bad mechanics.
I loved the first game, I love this one - it's just... hm

Mods are coming and I can only imagine what the good souls will do to bring back some parts of the first game into this one any maybe even vice versa (smithing would be nice in KCD 1 for example).
