need faster horse or take saddle and gear off look at stats. I think you need 58+ speed to keep up to the legate.
yep load the last save and buy the horse in Kuttenburg stables.
yah, warhorse studios can get bent, make me pay an exorbitant price for a game that becomes unplayable due to horse speed... i'm done. gonna be askin for a refund, i shouldnt have to skip my gear to get the fastest horse in the game.

bit of an overreaction, dont you think? i will say itll suck for runs were people doint want to use merchants at all but otherwise i just reloaded back 5 mins
I've not gotten to that point, but if Pebbles can't do it, it shouldn't be in the game.

I was able to keep up after dropping some armor on the ground. I did it on Pebbles too, though I did have the special perk for pebbles
Maybe you are over spurring? That makes the horse jerk back a bit and slows for like a second. There should be a thin yellow bar below the green one so you don’t over do it

i wasn't overspurring, got a new horse and completed the quest easily

This quest is arse. If you can't complete the quest without having a thoroughbred racehorse then that is piss poor quest design.

the problem is this game has many silly issues that fall in this silly category of quest that arnt hard to complete by design but hard due to my guess of not a single person at war horse seemed to have playtesting this quest and realize the speed requirement on most horses is ♥♥♥♥, i sold off pebbles early for a horse with barely better stats not knowing if you kept pebbles that you get a buff that doubles speed and now im stuck with horses that just cant keep up im stuck and cant get past this part..... fun game lol... kinda want my moneyback as well since there are literally 5 quest that are just bugged and wont let you attept to start or finish them

You can complete it with any of the two free horses - if they have their perk active.
In other words, if you didn't rush through the main story, but you rode them alot, they got the perk and it buffed their speed.
If you ignored side content, then sorry, your horse is too slow, you will now have to go buy another horse.

Not only this is not piss poor design, this is an ingenious reminder that RPGs are not Candy Crush Saga and have tons of different content to explore.

I was able to complete it with upgraded Herring. You don’t necessarily need to buy a new horse to complete this quest. Just remove the saddle and make sure you’ve ridden your horse far enough to get the perk.

I completed it the first time with un-upgraded Herring + romani horseshoes (the fastest?) + pebbles' saddle (the only one I found with no speed reduction), but very high Horsemanship skill (24).

You can easily keep up with a faster horse by going offroad to cut some distance.
For players with perkless Pebbles or Herring, there is a good fast horse to buy inside Kutenberg (Pisek Lad).

This is an absolutely stupid take. This is objectively bad quest design. Locking people out of doing the main quest, and forcing them to reload, or cheat to progress IS bad quest design.
And your take on it being to "Reinforce doing side content" is even more stupid. I've been doing a lot of side content, but have a bad horse because he is PRETTY! I am playing an RPG, and want a pretty horse. Not either of the free nags to get a perk for stats. I never cared he was slow as ♥♥♥♥, because he is a pretty white horse.

KCD2 has terrible quest design, and that is an objective fact. I love the game, it has a lot of good things to it, but it is undeniably buggy, and has some very questionable quest design.
