What is the best horse?

Upgrades are only possible by perks. The horse itself only can be exchanged.

However, Pebbles is not your canonical horse from KCD1. All "friends" fleur was because scenarists of KCD2 DGaF about KCD1. So you could exchange her without any second thought for some better horse.

True - in KCD1 I rode Peebles only twice - from Rattay to Neuhof and from Neuhof to Merhojed, where I bought Jenda (exchanged for Shadowmere not long after).

Pebbles is Henry's horse in KCD 1 and if you ride on her long enough in KCD 2, Pebbles gets her own perk.

Thanks, but the list is incomplete, since it lacks the horse I use, called Soldier.

You can buy Jindřich a horse before Pebbles would be gifted to him. This means, that she is an optional horse and not canonical. My Jindřich never rode Pebbles in most of playthroughs

I never rode her in most of my playthroughs. Mostly I bought Jindřich Rosinant before Pebbles was gifted.

And I've ridden Pebbles in KCD2 only because Warhorse stripped me off of lovely Skadufax.

Yes, you can buy horses before you get Pebbles, but that doesn't change fact, that those horses you can buy are optional and Pebbles is canonnicaly Henry's horse.

I think we just have different definitions of the word "canonical". For me, it's what was predefined by the world rules and it's an antonym for "optional" :-)
