Anyone have any tips for speeding up combat?
Every fight just feels like a slog. Just blocking over and over and over until the RNG finally lets me land a hit. When I do land a hit, they often do little to no damage.

Obviously I can master strike, but these don't do a whole lot of damage.

Henry seems to have very little stamina and it makes it difficult to wear out an enemy as well.

If you fight heavier armored enemies, they take little damage unless their stamina runs out-- requiring combos. If they interrupt your combos too much, I just rely on master strikes. If your combat skills are low, practice with a combat arena for a a day or three.

If you are rushing the main quest, you might run into higher tiered enemies sooner than usual. I had warfare and swords and marksmanship at 20 before even doing the wedding.

I went to the archery competition and just kept competing, over and over. I began with a crossbow and when I had skilled up a few levels I switched to the bow. It didn't do a massive amount, but it was enough to focus on some warfare skills that connect to all weapons.

When I went out later with just a hunting sword, I was able to dispatch enemies much faster, while continuing to get more levels. I was able to quickly level up in more stamina based skills.

Just be careful not to incorrectly equip yourself with weapons you aren't good enough to use yet. They can seriously hamper your effectiveness.

Swords have low blunt and armor is particularly good at stopping slash dmg.. which leaves..?
pointy stabby stab. hopefully with bane on the pointy stabby stab.

Several of them, actually.

So first of all - do not get stuck in block - riposte endless pit, just use perfect blocks as a way to stop enemy combo and to begin planning yours instead

Then you do your second tip: use feints, hold your attack on one side and then quickly change it to the other and realese, it will land more reliably then trying to tire enemy out by riposting it to death + some opponents with sword is capable to actually masterstrike the riposte itself, block ripost is dead end fighting tactic that will destroy your weapon

Then comes the third one: Use feints to initiate combos, you have basic left right left and right left right, you can also initiate them by riposte but as i said it's unreliable, feints fare
much more better.

Also if you not already learned masterstike from the guy in Nomad camp, please go do so, sword fights would change dramaticly for you after you learn how to turn enemy attack to deadly baits, you can even learn how to use this riposte trap to learn their riposte pattern and try to masterstrike enemy ripost itself, as sword teacher would suggest you in lesson

I hope this helps, good luck on battlefields fellow ever hungry Henry.
I also heavily recommed to watch this video, it helped me to outgrow block ripost trap phase myself

Start investing into Alchemy. The Henry tier potions that you get 6 of at once are amazing stat buffs. Usually the good weapons early game have stat requirements exceeding what you will have so those stat buffs help tremendously. If you are out of stamina in like 4 hits that's because of stat requirement not being met.

Look into using crushing weapons against armoured opponents. Best way to damage an enemy will be to stab early game. It is possible to get cheesy auto-spacing stabs onto many an enemy for quick kills.

Not all master strikers are made equally. Sabre MS has a throat slit attack that instantly kills if they don't have neck protection.

You can't just wait around for the enemy to attack you for you to then MS. You can either a) goad them verbally or b) start a PB + attack chain and then anticipate and MS from there on. Identify which targets can MS against you and prioritise them last.
