Rain looks ABSOLUTELLY TERRIBLE for a game this nice and atmospheric
Also, no shaders or lighting actually affects the rain textures so if you are walking in the middle of a night and a rain suddenly starts you are not gonna be able to see anything except the white rain drops covering your screen (idk but i think rain doesnt usually glow in darkness).
The rain really needs an option to be turned off permanently in settings or completely reworked to actually reach the graphical standards of this game, because it absolutely breaks all immersion when it starts raining and in certain cases (like in the night) it can become literal obstacle to enjoy the gameplay.

i just tried to add the mod that disables rain in the first game (DOESNT WORK, I HAVE TRIED IT, THIS IS AN EDIT) and it may work, since the game is using the same engine and basically the same base of the game it self.
Feel free to try it your self, just follow the install directions exactly as you would for the first game.

AAAAAAND IT DOESNT WORK..

Maybe you can tell us if it works before ?
it may work ?
cmon dude
I agree, but it's not surprising, rain in KCD 1 tanked performance like crazy, they made a lot of compromises for performance in KCD 2.
Optimizations are typically corner cutting to increase performance, in this case I think they may of went a bit far as the rain looks like a PNG.
Dunno for rain, but clouds looks like in a 2000 game, fuzzy low res texture

rain in kdc 1 looked like ♥♥♥♥, exactly same as in kdc 2, idk what did they compromise by making the most atrocious rain ever, but they could at least let us turn it off so it doesnt spoil a great looking game.

If playing on pc, Open console and type : r_Rain = 0 (off) or 1 (on)
Old console command for kcd 1. works just fine for me on kcd 2

i think you can do that in launch options (am not 100% on that tho) but it doesnt disable the rain weather, just the visual rain effect, which is kinda weird during daytime, i am using the command only in night time rain scenarios

Yeah, it looks horrible and makes me dizzy. It's 3 american football shapes around the character view that follow you spinning, it is soo bad, but the thunder is awesome.

Why does it need to impact performance when they can just put rain haze on the distance.

yup, everything except the rain effect it self looks absolutely dope, idk why did no dev had issues with how the rain looks like, when its as immersion breaking as is.
It's the worst rain effect I've ever seen in a game, I hope they add an option to disable it.
