Stealing (not getting caught or seen) Still tagged for arrest?
Am I missing something here? I stole from a place perfectly, I had on all sneaky clothes, no one saw me go in or out, I put all the stuff away in my chest all without ever being seen by a single person and I still got pegged by the shop keep as a thief the next day after sleeping.

By all accounts not a soul should have even known I left my room at the inn let alone went and stole anything, there are a thousand people in Kuttenburg it could have been anyone.

Are you wearing any pieces of the stolen stuff?

They explain in the tutorial that if you make noise or someone sees you leaving a building looking conspicuous, they will put 1+1 together. In most games, AI is stupid and you can get away with everything, they try to go one step forward in this game.

It's not perfect, but it's definitely more realistic than most games.

There's a conspicousness stat as well that helps you appear "innocent" and get away more easily with thievery and crime in general.

Sounds a bit strange but NPCs do investigate why stuff is missing and if they saw you hanging around or you asked them about stuff you later stole they can catch you.

If you don't restore the crime scene to how it was (doors, etc) they will also get suspicious and realize they were robbed and start trying to figure it out.

If you wear it in the town you stole it in, even if the red hand has cleared, if a guard recognizes it you're screwed. Same for trying to sell it to a merchant who could recognize
It. To be safe always sell stolen goods to millers or the fence at the Nomad camp.
Unlike in the first game, NPCs are not idiots in this game. ;)
No I already know the basic rules, I wasn't wearing anything stolen.

I put everything stolen on my horse without being seen and went back to my personal chest again without being seen and put it all away, there shouldn't be any way they knew it was me that stole, my stealth and thievery is pretty damn high too.

That's my issue though not a single person saw me, it was midnight everyone was sleeping no one saw me or heard me at all, no one even woke up to search the store after i left, I just woke up and was wanted.

I was just wondering if there's something else going on.
People are even paying attention to open doors when they were closed before. I had this happen when I opened a door to a house but didn´t enter and the guy working infront of the house immediately noticed it and was like "what is going on that door was closed a minute ago", so yea you have to be really careful in this game.
How about when there are no witnesses... left alive? Does the game support murderhobo playstyle? Provided they do not manage to alert the infinite supply of guardsmen ofc.

I "liberated" some items, and when i returned later a guard ran up to me and told me that I was a thief and all that. I was never spotted DURING the burgulary, but I was seen going to the location and after leaving there.

So if you take something, close all the doors after you, leave your goods that you havent sold yet somewhere safe.

Only wear what you loot from enemies.

So far im enjoying this title, i did die to a food poisining, so i gotta find a way to get around that when i load in next time.
I agree it's weird, looks like they put Airtags in everything up to apples, herbs or bread and use Internet so they instantly know it has been stolen in the village you left at full gallop 15 minutes ago
It makes no sense except for some expensivel stuff like jewelry, horses, high end equipment or clothes
I understand they wanted to avoid the Skyrim syndrom where you steal everything with no risk, but they've gone too far the other way round imo

I'm confused about it as well. Went to the blacksmith's shed. It was dark, nobody saw me. I "stole" a bag of nails. Dropped it right away. After a few minutes, I get a notification that the owner noticed that something is missing and connected it to my suspicious behavior. The next day I had a waned status. Kind of silly.
Probably a bit buggy, I did the same thing but killed everyone in their sleep and i didn't end up wanted so i guess i'll just be stealth killing every shop i kill from for now on, I was just wondering if there was a story reason or w.e.

Best game ever though I'm not trying to complain

If I remember correctly, the tutorial explains that after too many thefts, NPC would be very aware of theft, they will check what's missing and accuse you because you're just a stranger. In the begining, I raided the clothing store and got the message a few days later. But I always took care of passing time until the "red hand" branding was gone and had no problem so far. Now, I'm only stealing when/what I need.

Had the same thing happen to me. Best I could do was pay the 1800 groschen then beat up the guard take it back and pay only 600 for beating him up :steamsad:
