Knockout sleeping NPC's?

Anyone know how knocking out NPC's actually work? I've did it a few times. Stole their items and then the next day they know it was me. Is there anyway to knock people out while they are sleeping stealthily? It would be nice to know immediately if the NPC catches me.

Its the same way you do normally, just click the quick time events, everything in this lame game is dumb quick time events. Its easier to do with women.

There is one when some blue crossing swords come up. That's in case they fight back. You can practice it at the pickpocket and knockout tutorial guy at the miller.

There is, you click "F" and then you click LMB when the swords appear. If they then fight back, you click RMB when the green shield appears; but if they fight back, they will wake up having seen your face.

I think you should wait a little because I think this is bugged as hell.

Like I robbed armory in a begging village NOT A SINGLE PERSON SAW ME, LIKE NON!
I go to the closest village with my stash to hide all the loot and sleep it out.
Next morning I've been declared a Thief and as i returned to find out i've being told that SOMEONE SAW ME IN A PLACE WHERE I DONT BELONG AND AFTER THAT PEOPLE STUFF GOT MISSING.
Truth be told I was playing dice till the night and then guard just came and told me to piss off because I should not be here and also where is my torch!? So I got out even paid 25 coins for not being quick enough, but come one this is just some prime BS.

When people are sleeping they don't fight back. I clicked when the swords appear and knocked them out but they still knew it was me

No-one fought back with me. I just knocked them out. For everyone you knock out asleep they will briefly open their eyes before you knock them out. It was like this in the first game aswell.

you got recognized very likely because you were wearing their friends items, they can recognize stolen items from friends!

No I wasn't I knew that might happen I even changed my own clothes and unlocked perk that shows what considered being stolen

Well I mean, you're new guy in town - and already became notorious for tavern fight with the locals. And then you casually walk at night along the streets (which wasn't that frequent at the time). And then people find out that their ♥♥♥♥ is missing. It's not that far of a stretch to make an educated guess what could happen (and it's not like they're wrong lol). As I understand in the game if you was generally saw at night in general - and was in location when npcs register item disappearance - then you're declared thief (But I guess you'll still be ok if you don't have stolen goods on you or your horse when you talk to the guards).

Another option I once used was stealing ♥♥♥♥ and then instantly leave the city (not with fast travel as in this case you'll be stopped by guards) to chill couple of days somewhere else. I was never declared thief and nothin of that sort, and when I got back - it was perfectly fine, I even sold the same stolen goods to the same trader I stole from (it wasn't marked as stolen already)

I have an entire guide for thieving if you want to check it out. To answer your question just don’t. Only knock people out from behind who are in your way the quick time event? It’s only for noise. NOT FOR NOTICING if you knockout from the front their eyes see you regardless and your spotted I just say don’t do it at all. Not even part of my guide because of that.
