They made sure poaching to be not profitable. Even if you kill something after hours of chasing them, wild animals don't respawn, so you can't earn anything.
Big waste of time, potions is the only way to make money now.

Are there no one-shot kills with Henry skilled up and player skill?

Bowhunting IRL risks lost quarries if the hit's not just right. Is this not possible in KCD2?

There are one shot kills but you need a better bow/crossbow or at least better skills.

Potions, you say? I found the brewing process to be too tedious and don't see that auto-brew perk. Is there a way to auto-brew?

The best/fastest money-maker for me has been the archery contests so far.

Of course it's boring. They want you to earn money with honest work, not crimes. Crimes bad. Or something.

Lol, right. They want us to toil in the fields like peasants did back in those days. :)
One pro tip: poison on your arrows or bolts is your best friend when hunting. Also good for other weapons. Get dollmaker's potion recipe and have fun with that.

Skill issue

That's how hunting is, even hitting an animal in the head won't mean instant kill. What the game is missing is a trail of blood, that would help.
You wouldn't shoot game in the head with a bow anyway you aim for the heart. Even then it wouldn't insta die.

You could always take your bow and arrows to the local butchery and start practicing.

You been hate brigading for the past few weeks, are we supposed to ignore that now?
Or how does that work?

I don't know how your brain works, but I have an idea judging this juvenile answer. :-)
animals don`t just disappear, they run away and you can find them again.
Animal KI is painfully stupid tho. Even if they see you after you wounded them 5 sec earlier they won`t behave different. Also it`s not possible to wound them so that they move slower or die slowly. Rdr2 had everything right hunting for me, this is like 5 steps back.

Get your dog back, if you haven't done so already, and tell him to sic the animal you shoot as it runs away. He'll chase it down and once it dies, he'll bark until you find it. Works really well.
this is the only real way to hunt. Its realistic for the bows/arrows available at that time

yeah hunting in this game is suck ass , for the sake of realism. it's poorly done , the weird accuracy on top of escaping hunt. it's sucks

I don't disagree that it's janky but there's method in the madness.

Even if you're hunting on foot, the game tends to always return to where it was initially spooked from.

If you have a decently strong crossbow, it's a 2-3 shot kill.

You pop them, they run, come back minute later, pop them, and they eventually fall over. Can get 2-4 deer in a few minutes.
The unrealistic thing about hunting is that the animals always walk back to the hunting spot after getting shot so you can shoot them again. If they're not returning then they bled out somewhere. The dog would help with that.
