Hammer and Tongs quest Bugged - bug report

There is a little side quest called Hammer and tongs in the town of Grund. You are to craft a sword and compete with an apprentice named Matthias.

The issue is in the 2nd part of the quest, Matthias challenges you to a fight. If you accept, he pulls out a sword. If you pull out a sword the quest fails and he goes "What the hell are you doing?"

If you try to fist fight him he just stabs the ♥♥♥♥ out of you. If you beat him up, towns folk around will go "what are you doing! Stop hitting him!"

Unfortunately I think this is just a bugged quest. But also make sure you're crafting the "competition" sword and not just any sword.

In my case it was really confusing due to translation - I changed the language to english and instead of "tournament" (my mothet tongue) its "competition" sword (english), which makes much more sense now

you need to make the COMPETITION SWORD, no the hunting sword, i got baited by the smithy

I also thought it was a bugged quest. I was forging an ordinary sword, not a competition sword, and I thought what was wrong...

i had to reload 3 times before i figured this out

this is the one that helped, because I had a shield on and when I drew my weapon, the guy's sword would instantly disappear. Reloaded a save where I finished the sword and then unequipped the shield and it helped progress to the actual duel.

Did you fight with the competition hunting sword? I had this happen, but I had my normal weapon still equipped. I reloaded and made sure to switch weapons and it worked fine.

This was the quest that taught me to always be checking my equipment before doing anything and I am pretty sure that habit saved me from a bunch of other quests not working right.

I also used the weapon forged (after loading a save having experienced this) and that worked out for me iirc

I was fighting him, didn't draw my sword. Doing fine, backed off to regain some energy then the fight ended as if he won and I couldn't do anything other than give him my sword. Very annoying.

I didn't bother talking to him until passing by again after "winning" the crafting competition. When I talked to him then, he wanted to apologize for being an ass and not as skilled as he thought he was.
