Forging the hermits sword
Has anyone been able to make it masterwork quality, or only tier 3?

After messing around with blacksmithing I am pretty sure you are unable to create a mastercrafted version.

I have a 28 crafting skill.
I made zero mistakes (no comments on cooled off, burning, or messing it up.
I heated it hot, did 6 power strikes hilt to tip, flipped it, repeat, flipped, heated again.
During the second time through above it completed. So like 30 power strikes.
Any other weapon I craft in a similar fashion always comes out masterwork.

Some previous attempts with 1-2 mistakes made a III quality.
The pre-order pole axe if you make more than 3-4 mistakes it fails.
So I am beginning to think because it is a quest item it only has one set of stats.
Same as above. Not possible to get over level 3.
Any special one-time order weapon will be level 3, no omatter how good or bad you are. All the other regular weapons can be tier 4. I think, this was also mentioned in a review, if not in the game manual itself.

Damn, I tried for 4 hours getting it to tier 4, made another sword with a lot more mistakes and that came out perfect first try. Irritating. I want my 4 hours back!

This is very much a typical KCD experience lol
you can't upgrade quest items past their lvl .. or not idk
Honestly, every reforged item has been a complete pain in the ass. The Adorned Axe, Hermit's Blade, and Radzig's Sword.

Use the same "methods" you do to create mastercrafted weapons and they end up making mistake son the reforges if you do not fail completely.

The Wikis and such show mastercrafted screenshots so the items do exist. Whether they were consoled in or something.

I suspect they changed something in blacksmithing and it did not affect reforged weapons, so reforged were kinda screwed. I highly suspect it has something to do with crafting level, as in it does not matter for reforged. Judging form the posts and such I researched eveyrone is complaining they can make mastercrafted with mistakes for normal weapons, but one mistake on a reforge and it drops quality too fast because four mistakes becomes failed.

you cant make it IV grade, I even have max skill of 30 plus wearing the apron to see if those hidden values will help over 30, nope. grade III is max.
Cannot forget the hermits sword,. Missing material: crossguard. Did i miss something or is the quest broken?
I tried several times and search a bit on internet as well and I can confirm that it cannot reach lvl 4 quality. It probably doesn't have a lvl 4 version in the game files. It's unsurprising since you're just repairing it, not remaking it from scratch. So once you craft the lvl 3 version, you've done your job and the blacksmith will comment positively on its quality.

BTW, the sword counts as a short sword despite having the model of a common longsword, so if you were planning to use it, there is a sketch hidden in a cave in the first map that allows to make the Basilard is probably the best one handed sword availlable until the Kuttenberg map. So, there is a better option availlable.
