Baldurs Gate 3 went through the same thing despite being massively successful.
I mean... considering the only way you would ever see it is if you wanted to, I'd say so?
You need a mod? Is it too hard for you to not click (Kiss Him) in the dialogue options for Hans without a mod?
FREAK OUT EVERYBODY FREAK OUT RAINBOW FLAGS ARE PLOTTING TO NATIONALIZE THE MEANS OF PRODUCTION
So utterly cooked
I feel it's probably because of the last few years in gaming we've had. A lot of games DID try to push a narrative and DID try to normalize a lot of things that WERE forceful for a lot of people. I can understand where they're coming from.
However - to call KCD2 woke would be laughable. The first 10 minutes of the game you're already chasing after women with Hans. There's not a single hint of anything homosexual until the point where you actually can initiate the romance option with Hans. Which is at LEAST 10 - 15 hours into the game if not more, given you've done side quests & some healthy exploring of the map, and even then there's not a hint of gay dialogue to be found.
It's a single text that states "I care about you" with a heart next to it. Nothing is said. Nothing is hinted at. There's no sexually charged body language. Nothing. Just the text option.
I haven't clicked it, and as a result I've also not had a change in the way the game flows.
Henry is still chasing after women. Hans still wants "wenches".
Musa is a scholar from Mali, which if look into actual irl history, is an actual place of knowledge. A black man in Bohemia during the 1400's (KCD2 plays in the year of 1403, under the rule of King Wenceslas IV) is in fact quite rare, but not unheard of, as Europe was already trading with Africa at that stage and was even reliant on them for things such as spices, silk, gold, ivory and salt.
Flaming stuff like Concord, or Dragon Age the Veilguard, I can understand. As there were actually elements that would be forcefully pushed into your face, like it or not.
Comparing KCD2 to any of those examples though? Undeserved.
