I dont know how to win the horse race

Like my horse swerves too much? Any tips

I tried a couple of times, I even have a couple of perks that should help, but to no avail.

You have to win 2 out of 3 'challenges' and the 2nd and 3rd are much easier, so I did not bother trying to win the horse race.

Don't accept challenge 1 right away. Say you'll come back later to do it. You can talk to the herb lady / his wife, she'll give you something to slow the opponent's horse. It is still difficult.

Even with the potion, Pebbles just runs out of stam and gets overtaken. I use quick-start to overtake but I can't seem to maintain it. I've resolved to come back after I get a few more points in horsemanship.

Everyone comments on Pebbles being an old horse. So that may be making it much harder for me but I don't care, Pebbles is my horse and I will replace Pebbles with no other.

The follow Road Ai kinda sucks. Need to manually drive

Yea I just won the race. I noticed that my horse was super fast at the start but seemed to slow down, then I remembered I have the perk that makes my horse take off fast from a stop. So every time I had to slow to let stamina rebuild, I made sure I slowed to a complete stop, then went into the gallop from a stop for the sped bonus

I just cant get past the Bandit Camp at the lake. Everytime I race by (even with the faster Horse Perk) it throws me off. Even if I'm already far away ... This logic makes 0 sense. Why would the horse just pass by and then still stop throwing me off?!

If you cut up the hill on the way back, just before the fork you can cheese a win
