how do i counter a riposte?

im dueling tomcat but his riposte attack does me half my health damage, i cant win against his riposte. do i just need to get better stats?

Perfect parry again, then you can counter again.

I've had sequences of 6-7 back and forth attacks of this, basically running out of Stamina from 100 to 0.

If your skills are higher than your enemy, generally the counter-parry will hit sooner than later.

Perhaps you need better armour?

To prevent a master strike do not attack in the opposite direction of the opponents stance.

yeah, i was able to beat him and then he taught me how to prevent it lol
