Selling Loot
I am a few hours in and have amassed quite a bit of gear from bandits, etc., but no one buys the stuff. Most I was able to sell was just a crossbow. Is there anywhere I can offload this stuff?

well if its marked as stolen... go to the smith where u get ur first bed (or miller)
put it in the chest .. wait till the robbed status is gone .. then sell it to every trader u like
There is a trader in one of the towns, but I can't keep them straight.
You can sell loot to the correct trader. Smith for example for weapons and metal armor.

If the items aren't marked as stolen, you should try to sell them to the corresponding traders. A general trader might buy most of it, but you'll get a better deal selling armor and weapons to a blacksmith or an armorer, clothe s to a tailor and so on

People usually buy only what is their specialty - so blacksmith arms and armor, tailor clothing, grocer and tavern food, apothecary herbs and concotions etc.

With exception of general store, who buys almost everything but gives you bad value for it. But then again prices are tied to your skill and reputation and everybody hates you becuase the beggining of the game is filled with closeminded village idiots who hate each other but hate "anyone not from around here" even more, so there is that.

Just take what is really valuable and groshen and leave the rest, it is not worth the weight most of the time.
Also for stolen things (marked with the red hand) if you keep them in your inventory or chest for few days the stolen status dissapear.
