You get some cracked up directional BS with it on mouse and keyboard and you MISS all the time at the edges and takes 3-4 re heats to get it done.
Swords and axes are fine but ♥♥♥♥ me if I have to do another horseshoe again I'll throw my mouse in the trash.
Honestly I did something yesterday, that should be its own achievement. Last night I managed to bang out an entire horseshoe in a single heating. I feel like once you do that, you can TRULY call yourself a smith in game.
Actually, at some point in the main story (no spoilers), you have to give 3 horseshoes to somebody. If you don't have any in your inventory, you'll need to forge them... I think it's not mandatory to progress the main story mission, though.
You can snipe and headshot folk in CoD and BF all day long but you cannot hit a f**kin horseshoe? haha
For mouse and keyboard the depth perception value plays a role. You are at an already odd angle of view with a left bound motion control for the camera and hammer which means you move the mouse left and the hammer goes up slightly as it moves left.
The angles are odd and definitely work against you to add value to challenge in the minigame.
Dedicated blacksmithing games dont have this issue because you can manipulate your camera angles to fit your preference. This game has 1 locked view and the sensitivity of the hammer is way out of wack.
Controller users dont suffer from this because it feels like it was made for them. The sensitivity scales for controller with the hammer look and might even feel alot more natural.
On PC you are fighting for control and this is just with the horseshoe but for more casual users it can feel like swords and axes can fight you as well.
My suggestion to devs:
-Fix the camera angles or allow people to adjust their view
-Add sensitivity sliders for the hammer and movement of the swords/axe pieces on the anvil and forge
-Add a setting to show where the hammer will land like a dot or a circle of area that is fitting for the game setting/theme(this counts for people with eye disabilities)
The comment for disabilities does go into this heavily because imagine someone tries to play with 1 eye. Tell me how horseshoes go when you are used to 1 eye depth perception. You will miss almost every strike.
All those extra pieces like guards, pommels or hide for the grip seem to be just extra materials that you buy or find, so no extra crafting for those. I am actually a bit disappointed that we do not need to put things together while crafting...its seems always just to be about hammering the metal and then its done. Missed opportunity here....
