They should make him able to be killed, but then let the cut scene later play out without him there and let the player face the consequences.
Which in this case is Eric killing you during cut scene, Musa not being there to save you and game over for something you did some 12 hours earlier in game.
People say they want choice to matter in rpgs. Let's put this to a test. I am all for the old Morrowind "fate being destroyed" ideal, but don't bother giving a message that we screwed up. Let the consequences for such an action fall where and when it should, even if its 100s of hours later.
So when you cannot swing your weapon at other essential NPCs, it's the animation xml somewhere that is preventing it.
Unfortunately in the 2nd game this system doesn't exist anymore. They don't like the idea that a player can 'kill' essential NPCs even for a joke.
Yeah same with Morrowind (sorry said Oblivion before which is when that got dropped with Elder Scrolls). I am all for returning to those days of hard core consequence, but say to take it a step further and drop the message or any indicator you screwed up. Let that be a surprise for later that falls when and where it would be logical.
You cannot kill any essential NPC's that are needed for quests. Only a complete moron and/or racist (probably both) would get such an idea you cannot kill him solely because he is black..., seriously, when did ppl get THAT daft ?

The Lion's Den Quest Overview (Possible Spoilers):
Chertan's Attack:
Chertan, the Cuman commander, gets stabbed. You’re tasked with finding the attacker.
At the crime scene, you find:
Blood on the ground.
A cannon and spilled gunpowder near it.
A bloodied tub by Chertan's tent.
You can also find a Lord Borumlaca’s Bond letter in Chertan’s chest, revealing Grozav owed Chertan money—a possible motive.
Musa Becomes a Suspect:
After Chertan dies, Grozav tries to pin the blame on Musa.
You can either defend Musa or cast suspicion, but the game forces you to investigate further.
Musa himself finds out the real cause of death was poisoning, not the stab wounds.
Investigating the Poison:
After examining Chertan’s corpse and reading the Book of Poisons near his body, you discover the poison used was Kiss of Death.
You then search the tents of all suspects, including Musa, Grozav, and Stephen Crow.
Stephen’s tent has all the ingredients for the poison, making him the prime suspect.
The Trial:
At the trial, you can accuse either Grozav or Stephen Crow.
Accusing Grozav gets him killed and unlocks the "Hydra’s Head" trophy for eliminating all three commanders.
Musa always walks free, regardless of what you do.
💡 So, is there a way to frame Musa instead?
The game seems hardwired to exonerate him, no matter what evidence you present. But has anyone tried manipulating the evidence or dialogue choices to pin the blame on Musa and get him executed?
