Kill wolf pack quest

On the quest where you have to kill the pack of wolves. This quest is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ so far. The wolves do not even have to play an animation to kill the sheep so they can just run up to him and it drops dead. If you damage the wolves enough they all run away in this incredibly early quest, locking you out from completing it and getting the reward. I've tried approaching combat in a number of ways, from trying to take the wolves on one by one so they dont all run away once theyve been damaged enough, to shooting them with a bow so I stack damage high enough before combat starts. The quest completed once when I killed one wolf(I already killed several in all my other attempts.) but the sheep was dead, every other time I've had to fail the quest to keep the sheep alive.

Don't bring the sheep, just bring some meat. Drop it and wait, when the wolves show up attack, and when they run away, just wait, they will come back.

I lost the sheep but was able to kill the pack, to be precise I killed 2 out of 3 (1 wild dog, 1 wolf) and the game gave me completion. I was already using bastard sword so I was able to kill the wolf before it could run away. I got lucky with the dog as I missed a hit, it started to run away but I was able to hit it with an arrow and it died. Annoying quest and it is not the only one early in the game.

or if you have a bow/crossbow then you can just shoot them they dont run far most of the time they just go for 4-5 seconds and then strut around....
