Seriously, how do you get the dog to stop barking

It's probably something stupid, but whistling doesn't work. How do you get the dog to stop barking at the beginning?

Unreal how the game gives zero indication of what to do. No keybind looks like it could be the one other than "pat dog" which does NOTHING. WTF lol
