Report a translation problem
There should be save files inside with names like 'exit.whs' or something like that. Thing is, if you delete these files manually, steam cloud then auto-syncs all files with those available in cloud (if available) when you start the game.
I could be wrong but it's possible you deleted your original savefiles first and your cloud store was empty for some reason too. When you started the game, cloud auto-synced the game data but downloaded an empty saves folder to your profile.
Edit: also check what user Schublade said: see if you have a folder named playline1, playline2 or similar. If you're lucky there should be savefiles inside from your other playthroughs. I hope this helps.
I advise you to write to the support service and to the group dedicated to the first part. Take a look, is there any old saves left on the computer?
