I don't care about the controversy itself, but cancelled my preorder anyways
Personally I think the controversy is kinda silly, since in practical terms it is no more than what's in BG3 and plenty of other RPGs.

That said, I can acknowledge why people are mad about it. It is a divisive issue, and when divisive issues get introduced into a traditionally non-divisive game like the KCD series, a good portion of the previous game's target audience will be divided. It could be a loud minority, but past few major releases proved otherwise.

As a result, I cancelled my preorders on purely practical grounds:
  • Similar to KCD1, the game will likely release in a state that will require a fair bit of work and patching over the course of a few months. This in turn requires continued interest in the game and sustained funding. If the game performs poorly, it may never get the support it may need.
  • KCD1 had a great modding community, but I can already see it from a mile away where some modders will get pissed off when their mods get taken down from Nexus if they try go anywhere near the divisive issues. Depending on the game's popularity post-launch, I'm also not sure if the modding community will pop off like KCD1's did.
  • The devs responded to the controversy in a pretty weird way. I don't understand why they were so non-transparent about things and evasive in their comments - they should have just come out openly about things. The fact that they tried to be evasive does undermine my overall trust in their communications in general - less trust means I'm more inclined to wait and see instead of preordering.

I think at the end of the day, regardless of which side you are on, it still stands true that if you bring divisive issues into a game, expect the player base to be divided. A divided player base hurts all players, even those who didn't care about the issues.

Well written! Personally i think it is never good to pre-order. I'm gonna wait and see if CKD2 meets expectations. Patience is a virtue!

Said it multiple times on this forum already: It's not about a gay scene. It's about the how and why for quite a few of "us" who don't enjoy the decision that was made.

Henry was straight by warhorse's own team. There were no black people in Bohemia of that time, said by Vavra. They went back on that. BG3 and similar games have a blank slate character and options are needed for freedom. Here, we have an established character with a backstory we're just following. So this isn't an "option", it's a retcon. With some of the worst PR by Vavra on twitter, avoiding until he had to say something about the messages from Saudi.

Combined with what has been "uncovered" about the Embracer people who own Warhorse now, it just looks like stuff that was only added for the modern audience. If you give them money, you're just supporting others continuing this way of handling their target audience.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VmTn_lVLtbE this explains a lot of my personal issue with the release. The interesting part is around 5:35.
practical grounds my ass, you sure that's not the AI talking from you?

1. There is no KCD series. It is one story.
2. The support shown for the first game is what makes up their reputation. They have already demonstrated they can do the work necessary. Not seeing that makes you look like a blind fish.
3. Modders were not needed at all to play the game
4. The "controversy" is made up by muppets.

and what divisive issues, the ones only in your head, those planted by muppets.
There were what? a million that paid a fair price for KCD 1 and 4+ million that came thereafter mostly at a discount. If you call the playerbase not divided you are delusional. And if you do what ♥♥♥♥♥♥ kind of agenda is on your colors?

Well put and I understand. I do expect a lot of patch's after release as far as fine tuning the game. But its just too bad. They also could have just made a real sequel rather then what they have now and avoided the whole matter. The silence on all of this proves of its guilt does not help on their part. But regardless, people can decide to buy it or not. I only want them to understand what they really are buying and they can chose what is important/value to them from that point on.
I have a 10700KF CPU, RTX 3080 GPU, 32 GB RAM and will be installing the game on my NVMe m.2 SSD outputting to an ultrawidescreen 1440p monitor. with a native resolution of 3440x1440 The CPU recommendations are pretty steep so I'm concerned with my CPU. However my GPU exceeds the recommendation. How will it perform on my machine?

We'll see how it goes.
I'll start playing only in hardcore mode anyway, and that release is further in the future.
This_is_a_war. If you are not willing to understand it or if you are not willing to accept it - you're still there.

That's ignorant.
Really didn't like what they did with Henry and Hans. But watching some videos of gameplay I don't like combat. I think it's worse. They made too much easier to fight multiple opponents. Now they attack like in the movies. One attack others wait. Boring. In KDC1 opponents would try to surround you. Multiple opponents would attack simultaneously. You had to be really careful and put effort to defeat group.
Here you kill one while others wait for their turn.
