Romance Options in Games

Anybody else was hoping that romance options in games would have disappeared by now? I thought it would have died with the good/bad RPG mechanics of the 2010's.

Often times they are just weird and out of place. I'll admit that KC:D1 did it probably the best because it was somewhat believable. In most games it's awkward, jarring, and weird. And in most RPG's since the Mass Effect trilogy I've completely avoided them.

"Quick. We must save the world. But first, let's go on a date." is how it comes off most of the time.

Why do people still want these options in a game?

Buldar's Gate 3 probably the worst offender of NPC's throwing themselves at you in a stressful time. Often times it doesn't affect the game in any meaningful way, but it's still jarring when games try to throw these relationships at you even when you don't want to partake.

Last chance to procreate before potentially dying is probably a thing.
