Me and my fellow Blacksmiths just want at least a tiny bit of representation. Like, slavs get some strong representation in this game, so why shouldnt get we some?
Sure it's odd to have a one-size-fits-all solution to crafting, as henry is a blacksmith and a alchemist all at once, but i think it's for the sake of gameplay.

He's the son of a Blacksmith, we improve what we learned while growing up in the second game it makes sense.
Even in the first one, Henry sometimes says that he is a blacksmith...
huh ? Crossbows have been around in medieval europe since the 10th century..., the game plays in 1403(?)..., they have been around for hundreds of years and spread far and wide...
