There is one thing that you have to understand and then it will all fall into place:
The position that your weapon 'follows through' into after a strike.
If you strike from the left, your weapon follows through to the right, if you strike from the right, your weapon follows through to the left.
So the previous exercise is easy, right-left-right or left-right-left, the weapon naturally follows through so it is correctly positioned for the next strike- so long as you start from left or right, it's simply strike-strike-strike- no need to move the mouse at all.
When striking from above, you need to be aware that the weapon follows through to the left!
So strike-strike-strike will give you top-LEFT-right and that's wrong.
After the first blow from above you must use your mouse to move your weapon to the right then strike-strike.
so from above strike-mouse right strike-strike.
That second strike is key, you need to force the second strike from the right instead of its' 'natural' position on the left.
