Attacked for helping
I helped a wagon with an escort of 2 soldiers against an attack by 3 bandits. After killing the bandits, the soldiers turned on me and killed me.. I didn't hit them, and shot the bandits with my bow & arrow.

I genuinely don't understand how things like this are supposed to add to the fun factor of this game. Anyone have an explanation as to why I was attacked by the guards? I want to like this game but I'm about to give up on it

Broke the law by helping an attack against bandits? Bandits that would attack me on sight, mind you..

Bandits incorrectly tagged as civilians, maybe.

No good deed goes unpunished, especially in this game.

Just leave them to it and pick up the leftovers.

I guess.. If this is intended then that's probably the final straw for me tbh. I would expect a game focused around combat would have some kind of dynamic combat system in place, but I guess everything is a one-off skirmish and there are no "factions" for you to side with. Yikes.

Sadly it's one of those games where getting involved in anything the AI are doing can cost you.

Same deal with the endlessly cycling brawls outside taverns, they don't get arrested but you do.

Riding to Nebakov with Hans, I was ambushed by like 5 bandits. Hans, after being so chummy during the ride, didn't even stop to look back as they threw me off my horse and ganged up on me. And to add insult to injury, while I was being killed, Henry said "I shouldn't leave Hans, I have to take this mission seriously". ♥♥♥♥♥, he left me!

Even trying to gallop past them got me thrown off my horse everytime. I ended reloading and fast travelling past the ambush, which kind of spoiled the satisfaction of being freed from Trosky.

These kinds of annoyances is why I use the unlimited saving mod. I'm willing to deal with the occassional AI ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, but not combined with a limited saving system.

Same deal with Matthew the bandit in Kuttenberg, he can see for absolutely miles.

He aggros if you don't stop immediately usually resulting in horsey dumping you in a 6 man fight.

He's covering the main road too so you have to deal with him or suffer endless annoyance.

Had this exact experience. Here is probably what happened.

After the bandits were killed you probably "flagged" or swept your (invisible) crosshair over one of the soldiers. That's exactly what I did. I was on the other side of the bandit and shooting him in the back with my crossbow when the guard killed him. I couldn't see anything until he ragdolled and all the guards in unison did their sheathing their sword animation but a split second later my hidden crosshair must have clipped one of the guards because they all instantly had subtitles above their heads telling me to surrender.

I never shot them either, they just all became agro once their were no other threats in the area and their AI could only compute that the player was pointing a weapon at one of them. I surrendered and then they said I owed them 400 groshen to keep their mouths shut. Yeah so obviously I just loaded a previous save.

Now I just watch bandit+caravan interactions and steal the loot after.

I went to Matthew's camp during the night, knocked him out and carried him all the way to bailiff.
I thought I could finish the quest like that, but when I tried to talk to the bailiff, he didn't have the quest text. Matthew then suddenly woke up, everyone freaked out and started attacking Matthew and when Matthew was dead, I was able to finish the quest.

I wish the game was a bit more flexible in how you can do and finish the quests.

I think if you kill a bandit that surrenders is accounted as a crime.

They didn't surrender tho. I found no solid reason in-game, apart from it just not working the way I would reasonably expect

One of the guards hit their thumb on one the arrows you shot into the bandits' head.
So you had it coming.
