Some do terrain texture stuff at the same time, and occasionally character outfit texture effects.
For all of its technical issues, STALKER 2's rain is the best rain I have ever seen in a video game. It consists of particles that drop and splatter against objects in game, including people and weapons, and even creates little streams of water that cascades down the sides of objects.
absolutely not. In RDR2 for example, rain and fog are particle systems.
KCD2 is really just a camera filter or some low effort implementation. I mean, you can find better rain assets on the unity asset store for like $20.
The biggest issue is the constant sheen of rain as it makes night time play in the game world unplayable. Can't see nothing. In KCD1 I would have to use Nighthawk and Wtch potions to over come it and be able to see at night when raining. No adjustment to screen or GPU settings can make it any better. They need to change it, plain and simple. Sometimes I'll even walk through the woods and it'll appear to rain for like 2 minutes and then turns off again. No sound no nothing aside from the rain sheen visual overlayed on my screen for basically no reason. Doesn't appear to be a variation of rain either. It's more like an on or off scenario, terrible written and terrible visuals for it.
