Feeding mutt is so frustrating
Every time I try to feed him I have to ensure I'm on level ground (and I mean perfectly level) to prevent whatever I'm feeding in from rolling off.

They should have programmed him to just follow the food for a couple of seconds.

yeah, its annoying..., i just started to leave him at home and only call him when i want to use him for something (usually as a sniffer dog).

In the beginning he is extremely useful in fights, but later on enemys become too weak anyways (or you too strong), so no longer needed for that.

It also seems the loyalty value is bugged sometimes..., having all perks and regulary feeding/petting his loyalty sometimes suddenly drops to a low value for no readily apparent reason

I always found feeding him to be pretty easy. Its praising him that's a pain. I have to feed him then position myself in front of him while he's eating and start spamming the "praise" key until it takes.

Feeding him with dried meat is really frustrating, because the bag it's in has a round shape and therefore it doesn't take much to roll away.
Yup, it's like playing fetch and feeding at the same time..

There are certain meats that are flat steaks and don't roll around, so I just stick to those.
Mainly lamb/mutton or deer meat, from memory.
i put metal balls in the meat just like the miller did with his sacks to make the food heavier and make it move less.
mutt cant run anymore but it´s still a good trick.

Just find a low spot and feed him there. The area next to the bench by the pillory is good in Troskowich. There is a spot in front of the minstrels standing spot at wagoners inn that you can drop at. Lower Semine is pretty flat. Some horse troughs are in low spots but use best judgement. Dropping it next to buildings or prvacy fences that are down hill from you is good. He's not going to run away just because you took a few extra seconds. And even if he does he comes back pretty quickly.
I can recommend fish because it keeps it orginal form when dried and thus won´t slide down anywhere.

Parising him is much easier when you order him to stay. Takes three more button presses, but then you can cuddle and praise him as you like. :)
I just tried to feed him dried beef in the Roma camp and some ♥♥♥♥♥ immediately walked over to the bag and said, "You can't just leave that here. It's mine now." Didn't even give Mutt a chance to try to eat it. 😕 Wtf 🤣

There is option to make him stay? I think I've missed it.

Free, heel and stay. The three states you can put him in.

Sounds like a pain in the butt.
Should I just leave him lost?

He isn't lost, he is back at the Devils Den on second map, unsure where he goes on the first map. Just leave him at the pub, living his best life. He doesn't serve a purpose after a while.
