Incredible Amount of Crashing (Despire all avaliable fixes)
Hello there,

I wonder if anyone is aware of any new fixes for KCDII crashing to desktop.

I've been playing for more than 55 hours without any significant issues, but as of recently I cannot even run for 10 minutes without a crash.

It almost never occures during open world gameplay and never in cutscenes - it is always either when opening a map a few times, or the inventory & journal menu, or any other menu for that matter. Sometimes it also occures when fast travel arrives into a destination or when washing in a bathtub.

When I boot the game, the menus work just fine, and I can even run around for a bit. But randomly, in about 5-10mins, sometimes more, sometimes less, I get a crash to desktop without any errors in windows event log.

I've already tried fixes suggested by the forums and all general ones, which include:

-removing mods (I had only 1 which turns on async comput)

-running both Steam and game .exe as admin

-updating graphic card drivers

-deleting shader cache folder

-disabling DLSS in game menu

-increasing the VRAM page file

-setting shaders to unlimited in Nvidia Control Panel

-whitelisting the Steam folder in Windows Defender Anti-virus

-running sfc, dism, disk & memory scans

-doing Windows inplace upgrade

-completely clear reinstall Windows from ISO & USB

My PC specs:

RTX 4070ti

i9-13900kf

32GB RAM

2 TB SSD

Windows 11 with latest updates

144hrz Monitor, wirless mouse (if relevant)

P.S. No overclocking & temperature looks fine, fps is stable.

Have you tried loading an older save to see if it's still crashing?

If support tickets would help people, online forums would not exist I suppose.

I have, yes. I tried a save or two from about 6 hours ago (gameplay wise), and still the same results.

I was crashing constantly until I looked in my BIOS and found MSI enabled Intel Boost Tuning by default. Turned it off and kept all the default settings, reset my GPU back to factory specs in Afterburner. It does not crash no more. Your rig is too fast to run the game. Haven't seen anything like this since Origin's Voodoo Mem manager for Ultima back in DOS. I assume they have some timing or mem manager going. Vsync is another thing, I enabled it and in Control Panel - let app manage it. If you enable the FPS counter in the game, you will notice a spike in frames when you open a map or any gump, like going to sleep or the store inv.

Indeed. That being said, I do not have an MSI BIOS, I have a Gigabyte BIOS (with a horrible interface). I set it to default, turned off XML profile to see if it'll help, but it did not, sadly enough. I may try to mess around the CPU settings, but I am too stupid for that and afraid to break something in my already broken PC.

I assume when CPU Cores reach 100C they Auto Throttle the Clock Speed maybe that causes the crashes

Maybe.. Maybe not.. I know about these tech specifics as much as a pigeon knows about mail he is delivering. I know it exists, and I know it should mean something, but I have no idea. That is why I ask you - the experts.

That being said, I've observed it only once, and only at one core.. core #5 or 4, and only for a milisecond. All other cores were around 65-80C temp.

Same, I bought it on release and still I have only about 1 hour on it as all it does is crash. I can't play for more than 40secs-2mins before it crashes back to the desktop but there is no error message.

i'm really frustrated by this, I just want to play the game I bought, but nope. :(
I changed everything in my system to stop the crashes its just the game.
I thought my system was ♥♥♥♥♥♥ removed cpu and ram ended up with bsod......
Just put some new thermal paste and played Cyberpunk for a while system is good game is NOT.

Crazy thing is, I played this game for like 100 hours before this all started i think they latest patch Fd up my game

Try verifying your local kcd2 files via steam.

Done. Even reinstalled the game a few times after those 8 clean windows reinstalls. Still nothing unfortunately..

Entirely possible. Though I believe for me the crashes started 2 days before the patch, so I guess I am completely ♥♥♥♥♥♥.

Finally a working solution!!!
Disable Intel turbo boost in the bios.
I have no more crashes.

I have Intel Turbo Boost and Intel Turbo Boost max technology 3.0 Which one should I disable you say? Both? If I do this, my CPU will be very slow, don't you think?

Heh, I was trhe one that made that post in the link. I am glad it helped.

I disabled both, but then I set multipliers that were higher than normal so basically my CPU is always in the low end of turbo mode. You could try just disabling one...now that I think about it...I think I will try to just disable the Max Technology 3.0 as that seems like the likely culprit. It is supposed to improve the performance of single threads running on a single core by turbo boosting that individual core more than the others. This game is really light on the CPU usage so I feel like it fits.

Though a later gen Intel CPU running at 3Ghz or so will still kill any game around unless you are playing at low resolutions.
