how does stealing horses work? i know 2 are at the starting town but how do i not get arrested after when im clearly on a stolen horse

You can get Pebbles (the horse you were on at the pond) for free if you can pass a speech test.

Is there anyway to get a stolen horse marked as an owned horse? I stole a horse and it was gone after a slept.

It not like the guards can run the plates on the horse and check to see if the horse is flagged as stolen.

I know i just assumed it worked like stolen items with the mark above it for random searches

Dont worry, did the same thing. If anything it was good to train up some stats by running around for everything.

the first horse (and if i remember right also the only horse) you can get through a quest is through the main quest after the wedding

but you can get a horse for free in semine pretty much at the beginning of the game already (a speech skill of 7 is enough)

You can run to Semine immediately after the pillory and get Pebbles

Have to go to the Nomad camp horse merchant and "launder" it for a sum (varying according to horse value) - or you can sell the horse
There are nice horsies (worth 2000+, but you'll sell for 500) here and there to steal...
Just DON'T dismount when talking to him, and get there by day so he don't sleep!

You can get back Pebbles for free if you spot her in the Semine enclosure and then convince the groom to give her to you. Later, in Trosky castle, you will be given another horse for free and interestingly, both of them will get a special upgrade if you ride them long enough making them some of the strongest horses in the game­.
