Difficulty of picking locks
What did the developers think with this mechanic? It is absolutely impossible to pick even one lock. It just doesn't work. I'm not a roborter. In general, the difficulty of this game is so absurdly exaggerated. This is fiercely antisocial.

I like it....... 1000 times more then anything betASSda ever made. Go to the mill, NPC will provide training chest there. Or do what i do, wait until midnight and just unlock all you can in towns (mostly front doors), then bail. Repeat tomorrow.

How do you cope in life if such stupid easy mechanics can block you?

Picking locks is easy, sorry to say, even with low level lock picking, it's not impossible to pick a hard lock, it just takes a bit of practice and understanding the mechanic itself. Go practice on that easy chest Miller Kryzel tells you to practice on.

But thanks goodness very hard lock is very hard indeed, even for an experienced thief. You can have thievery capped on 30 already, but still stealing the key and opening very hard chest is sometimes better option than picking the lock.
Go see the Miller's, talk to Mr. Miller. He'll be expecting you.
Train on very easy locks, read books, pay Skill Teachers to improve your skill

it gets easier and easier the better your skill is. Just don't expect to open higher difficulty locks while your character still sucks at it

if you "really have to" open a certain lock for quest reasions, drink a potion that temporarily increases your lockpicking skill/get the perk that makes you better at it for a few minutes after opening a lower level lock somewhere else

You gotta grind the skill really - otherwise you'll have an impossible time.
I think it's kinda cute that they even let you try to pick locks where it says "this lock is too hard for you" and then you can try anyway, shaking like an alcoholic on cold turkey.

I always switch to KBM though because with the controller it's a nightmare. I have no clue how people manage to do it on console.

Interesting. I prefer the controller because I get vibration feedback on how much pressure/stress the lock pick is experiencing. I like that this somewhat mimics the pressure/tension you would feel IRL.

Not that I know what that actually feels like since I've never picked a lock :P
At first it sucks but once you invest only a tiny bit of time and just pick a few locks, it works quite well. I can pick any lock now and I barely do it when I don't need to for any quest.
Get pickpocketing, levels your thievery fast so the locks get easier.

People have usually got keys on them anyway. Knocking them out while they sleep works too, then just loot them.

For more remote chests, look around, nests often have the key or the key is hidden around somewhere.
