weird cave creatures

I'm doing the dragons lair quest. Leaving the church near the major city, I found an abandoned manor/house. On the outside you can see somesort of mining pump/drain. You can see a weird tiled floor down below with no obvious way there.

If you explore the barn, you find a way into a mine underground. The weird thing is, at the end of the mine shafts, you hit a barrier/blockade of timber. On the otherside is a dead character with a lit torch on the ground. Next to it is a pool of water. However this pool of water literally had these little dragon looking creatures swimming.

I shot them all with a cross-bow. When struck you would hear a chicken scream sound. No secret achievements or anything like that. Super strange, not sure if its quest related or what.

The weird thing is, i reloaded a save and went back. The second time visiting, there were no creatures in the water. Wondering if this is some sort of game easter egg or what. Has anyone else seen this?

The game is full of such fun little easter eggs, movie references and whatnot. They are like the small dinosaurs from the second Jurassic Park movie.

On the cemetary of sedlitz you find behind a bush in the fasr corner something similar related to dark souls.
