Do I have to fight Volkmar in the quest Via Argentum to progress?
So I made it to Volkmar only to find out that 3 dudes will just fight you and you can't do anything about it, and unfortunately, even though kcd2 has a cooler looking combat system than the first game, it is just so damn hard to master as a new player of the game, so do I have to fight him in order to progress in the game? because I just can't do it

Man, many of us did all or almost all quests, 100+ of those.

If you ask about some quest and throw some names, we can't remember them all.
Give more details please, I have no idea what and who are you talking about.

I looked in my saves for the name Via Argentum and I think it was the mission to find evidence against Vavak.

If I recall correctly, you can pass a skill check and only have to fight one an let Volkmar live and after the quest you can meet him again at an inn inside Kuttenberg where he can teach you something.

By the time you play this quest your skills, stats and perks should already be good enough to fight a couple enemies together.

That being said, most of Via Argentum can be completed through talking. Speechcraft is a powerful skill.
If you are struggling in this fight, I would strongly suggest taking a break from the main quest and just working on building skills; at this point in the game this fight should be pretty easy unless you are under-levelled or have inadequate gear.

If you can't use the speech option to make only one of them fight you, try master-striking them with a sword and/or poisoning your weapon, it helps quite a lot. If the archer gives you trouble, getting close to him will make him drop the bow for a melee weapon. Potions are also a good option, especially the Buckblood for extra stamina.
