Spoilers and : How not to starve during...
the siege of Suchdol.

I tried various things.

It appears that if you out food (dried, of course) in your chest, it will disappear after the second rest. Food dropped on the floor in your room will disappear sooner. However, if you place te food in your wardrobe, it will remain. (I did this well before the Suchdol siege began.)

You can use it to feed Capon, though he will ask where you found it.

Or do the quest normally. But IDK maybe this may be helpful for a speedrun.

Oh, I'm having fun in my second playthrough testing the limits of what's permitted. Thought others might want to know.

I coincidentally left Honey in my chest which helped me for the first phase that disappeared like yours in the second. Didn't think to put it in another container like the wardrobe though so it disappeared. Managed to get wine to share with capon Capon & settled on weak potions for my own hunger. It seemed to give diminishing nutrition after each consecutive potion but I had enough plus some stockpiled; cuz I'm a hoarder.
I ate Mutt, I ate the stray dog, I ate the shoe soup

Mate of mine found food however :D - without doing any of it

PS: I loved that part of the game, especially since I'm from Salzburg and there's this legend where the castle was besieged :D

So, what they apparently did was showing the same cow on the battlements every day, always painting it differently to show that they still have enough food until the besiegers gave up.

Once the siege was over they washed the cow in the Salzach (the river flowing through Salzburg) and it had all kinds of colors or something.

It went down in folklore as "Salzburger Stierwascher" :)
1) After taking down enemies just loot them and eat their food. If you don't want to lose time loot them by pressing and holding E, than press I - and eat their food and throw out their armor and torches.

2) F*cker Janosh robs only Jindrzhich's inventory. All other chests in the castle contains food, if it was randomly generated.

3) Because it's hard to believe that Jindro's "the stealth hero of Bohemia" bag would be robbed by some mercenary and cook - you have the legal right to outbeat such a lazy gamedesign and add food to your inventory via cheat.

Update: the food in the cabinet declines. Per item, you should not place more than 30 because everything over 30 will disappear after a night's sleep. Otherwise, they seem to decline by a variable amount (linked to nutrition?) of 2-8 unites per night slept.

Solution: place 30 units each of two different types of dried food, just before you progress Oratores.
You're probably taking too long to do quest objectives. I pretty much got the drink from the horse groom for taking the horse for a ride around the battlements and returning it, then did the shoe soup from the dialogue options when you hear Musa talking with the others and you steal the lady's slippers back in the rooms to make a soup with.

I gave the drink to Capon and we had the shoe soup together. That was it. I had only eaten the ration Janosh had given prior to us running out of food.

I didn't starve. Do you have the perks from leveling that reduce energy and nutrition loss when standing still or crafting potions? Those can also help, but I didn't need to do any crafting.

you can drink weak potions as those satiate most.. (just make some from plants around, or use dried ones you have) give everything else to Capon..

Game is so dumb the rail quest are the worst of any RPG I can remember. The game has no replay value. That is why there are just 10% of the release players.

It's not that I don't know where to find food or that I'm doing the missions too slowly but, as explained before, I'm trying to find ways around doing them.

Or, I've just finished my third playthrough and I've been trying things like getting into Trotsky early, etc.
