Getting Herring later?
Found out much later in the game that I should have taken the horse Herring when it was offered to me during the main plotline.

Is there some way to get it later? I went back to the castle after finishing the main plot, but I don't see it anywhere.

Don't think so, you're not welcomed in Trosky anymore. Get Pisek Lad, that's best horse imo.
I don't think so unless it's at one of the stud farms somewhere.

Not much in it between Pebbles and Herring with their perks anyway.

Pebbles is actually the best horse int he game. After riding it for certain amount of KM you unlock perk that greater his stats a lot

Herring also has this hidden Perk, even takes longer to trigger. From what I've seen it makes uberHerring better than uberPebbles.

Pebbles is one of the best horses in the game, in point of his overall stats, but not "the best" horse in the game.
Herring with its Perk is in all stats offside weight capacity a little bit better as pebbles where Gringolet and Kincsem are the much better race horses and Pisek Lad the much better Warhorse is.

But in my eyes, if you will a good allrounder, Gringolet the best one, as it is one of the two fastest horses in game, has same solid weight capacity as Herring and a slightly better courage as it and same stamina as Pisek Lad.

But if you only will ride with an solid speed from A to B and will have a good weight capacity (top 4 of all horses) and rest dont care you, pebbles (with its perk) is more as good enough that there is no need to switch on an other horse (maybe it will change if horse races will come).

Pisek Lad only. Just a bit less stamina than Pebbles, but it makes no difference with horsemanship maxed up, same capacity and speed but twice that many courage.

Sorry, but no in my eyes.
Who really cares if you have 50 weight capacity less as Pised Lak (and also Pebbles)?
If Gringolet has with 60 speed maximum of all horses and same as Kincsem and also same stamina as Pised Lak and and Gringolets courage of 15 (plus horse items it comes up to 25 of 30) is high enoth to use it as a warhorse, if you know what you does (so 23 of Pised Lak isnt really needed).

So the best overall horse in KcD 2 is Gringolet, Pised Lak is only on second place.

I can agree with capacity, but if you improve Gringolet's courage with caparison and chanfron - you'll slow him down to 51 - and that's my Pisek's speed in full outfit.

Yeah, but for the background of coming horse races, Pised Lak will be never so fast as Gringolet, not even with items.
Thats the point, Gringolet is as Warhorse not more bad as Pised Lak, but as Race Horse better as Pised Lak will ever be and can carry more as enoth weight. ;-)

Pretty sure you have to take Herring when it is offered to you. Say no and the choice is gone.

Herring with the perk is better than Pebbles with the perk in everything except carry weight. So basically if carry weight is the main thing you want from a horse keep Pebbles. If you want a more well rounded horse get Herring for free when it is offered and unlock the stat buff by riding a lot.

Aaah, ok, I skipped racing in first run. And personally I don't like caparisons, they look stupid imo.

I am a bit late to the party, and if people here want Herring later i did actually find him. Whether this is particular to my playthrough though, i can't say, but he was at the Charcoal Burners camp below Lower Semine Mill.

got Hering too and unlocked the perk for him, but the stats are pretty similar - Perked Pebbles or Perked Hering nearly have the same stats.

Perked stats for Pebbles / Hering:

Speed: 53 / 51
Stamina: 217 / 235
Capacity: 353 / 308
Courage: 12 / 14

So i guess Hering is slightly better, but overall they are not hugely different, just picked Hering because i think its the prettier horse.
