Warding off evil quest

There's a task called warding off evil in kuttenburg. and I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong or missing with it.
My stealth skills are pretty high, maxed out the skill and have the best clothes set up I can find to make all the stats as low as I can, but these tasks just seem crazy hard. The people at the three locations never seem to sleep, and hear and spot me significantly more easily than any others can.

I've made sure I don't smell, all freshly washed, can't even get close to a pot to slip in some sleeping potion, is this another bugged quest or am I missing some things I am supposed to do?

The quest is not bugged, the npcs in those areas are just more careful/observant than regular. You can still knock them out or kill them. You cant get reported if there are no witnesses ;) If you want a non-violent solution just steal the items while being watched and then leave town for a while until the crime disappears.

Try throwing some rocks to distract them/lead them in a different direction

the tailor probably will give people them most trouble i think, the other two are in secluded areas. just go in after midnight and it should work out fine

Thanks for the tips! got it done eventually, but it felt so weird that they were so much more observant, late awake and patrolling than any other, every other stealth bit has been pretty easy.
