physical Armour coverage ?
does the actual coverage of a piece of armour actually protect Henry in that region i.e a quilted caftan vs a short pourpoint. both have almost identical stats however the caftan extends much lower the torso covering the upper thighs. Would this actually protect them or is it purely aesthetic choice ?

I think it does actually protect what it covers. If you shoot arrows at guards with helmets for example then the arrows will deflect from the metal sides depending o nthe angle oc but if you hit the open parts where the face is then--> dead guard.

Yes it matters. In one of the developper streams, one of the lead designers said that the visual appearance of an armor shows the area of the body that are protected by it. By example, if you wear a Smooth cuirass which has no backplate and you're hit in the back, you will only get the protection of your gambeson and your chainmail. But if you were wearing a Common brigandine that gives a little less protection stats wise, you would be protected by it in the same situation because it does cover the front, sides and back. For the same reasons, visored helmets only protect your face if you close it in battle. Otherwise, they don't.

So, a longer gambeson will protect the lower parts of your body while a short pourpoint won't. There are also mail armor that have short sleeves (italian and saxon ones). That means that the forearms aren't protected by them.
