how to "wash" stolen goods so they're mine?

Is there any way to "wash" stolen goods so they don't have the red hand symbol and appear as stolen? I've stolen some good stuff I want to keep for myself, but running around with stolen goods obviously can get you in trouble. I know it's meant that way and only realistic, but I'm still wondering if I can somehow get the stuff clean and own it without worrying about getting mugged by some guard.

you just have to wait a few days, it will go away after that, there is even a perk that makes it go away 25% faster

you can also just fast travel to another town and sell it there

im on day 20 and its still marked as stolen... i dont believe that wait a few days crap. ive waited more than i few days i n real life and still nothing. nevermind days in the game

Have you tried selling to a fence and repurchasing?

Otherwise stuff them in a chest and wait.

thats not what i experienced, no matter if i had the itmes in my inventory, my horses inventory or my personal chest they always lost the stolen mark after a few days

for some items it took longer than for others, it could be that it depends on how valualbe it is or that the mark only dissapieras for 1 item at a time, i dont know.

it never took more than a few days for me before all my stolen items lost the mark though.

What item are you referring to?

It is true that after some days the stolen tag disappears but it depends on the value of the item and from whom you stole it.
If you stole something that is very valuable than it can take quite a while for the stolen tag to disappear.

If you can sell it without getting in trouble, you can repurchase it without it keeping the stolen tag.

It is true that after some days the stolen tag disappears but it depends on the value of the item and from whom you stole it.
If you stole something that is very valuable than it can take quite a while for the stolen tag to disappear.

nuremburg armor. woth like 8.5k for the chest. but for real ive played the game for 2 weeks and probably slept more than a month and its still marked stolen

Sell to a fence, then buy back and it's clean as a whistle. And for some extra meta gaming, steal the money back later during night.

It seems to vary depending on the items. What I can't tell is why some items will eventually lose their stolen status, while others won't.

For example, I've stolen various armor pieces, yet for some reason there are two chest pieces I stole that simply will not lose their stolen status. It's been at least 3 in-game weeks since I stole them, and I've stolen dozens of other armor pieces that have all lost their stolen status within those 3 weeks.

I can't figure it out, with some items it's as quickly as 1-3 days, with others it seems to take at least 21+ days. It doesn't seem to be tied to the value either, as some helms I've stolen that lost the stolen status are far more expensive than the two chest pieces.

Yea ok that makes sense since it is an incredibly valuable armor. You might have to wait a little bit longer until people forget about it.
