How does NPC death work? Please help!
Riddler Barley was just killed by cumans, is he completely gone from my save now? Or can he spawn later? I'm bummed if i'm losing on content because of this.

if he was *just* killed, i´d consider loading an old save to prevent that.
i havent met him on map 2 so i assume he´s not there.
you can check whether or not you´ve done all riddles and just roll with it.
i doubt he is mentioned in the endgame credits.

from a rewards point of view, the skillgains are not worth it. you´ll end up as a heavy alcohol addict anyway.

i dont think there´s an achievement linked to him, so the only reason to reload would be whether or not you want this npc to be alive or whether or not you want to make sure you´ve done all the riddles.

in general, if a quest-npc is killed by random circumstances (and not you bashing their heads in (the game "knows the difference" according to devs), they should respawn, but the riddler isnt a questgiver.

i had the same issue yesterday, when on my way to bless the yackers holy stick, the stick-carrier killed the opposing yacker-chief in the fistfight. i reloaded before finding out whether or not this npc would actually be dead for the following competition.
anyway lesson learned: dont bring a heavy stick to a fistfight if you dont want to risk f___ing up your save.

I do not have answer for you. But I killed twice those two guys who appear out of nowhere and want to fist fight you (one is topless an the other one is just his mate who does the talking). They would always attack me for no reason.
And then they appeared for third time, finally didnt start attacking me so I could actually talk to them.
Maybe you will be lucky and your riddler is going to respawn too, hehe

Dunno about this particular NPC but the game follows a certain historical accuracy

The Riddler, as well as the unlucky guy just die since they have lost their purpose, haven't even seen riddler's death but the one of the unlucky guy.... it has no impact on the endgame - hm
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

got your sentiment and I fully agree - some of those "unnecessary" NPCs that one gets attached to aren't fully developed and suddenly you find them next to the road as being dead.

There's SO MANY of them though - I'd say, they are unfinished

My favorite encounter to date though was.... have you met death yet - seriously caught me off-guard :D
I know if you meet a guy who mistakes you for someone else (and don't provoke him too much during each encounter,) he'll eventually turn up in Kuttenberg wandering in one of the taverns. The reward is only that he finally agrees he was mistaken and he reimburses your expenses but it's still very satisfying.

I was a little saddened to find the unlucky guy as a victim of robbery, but Henry's offhand comment made me chuckle...

Thanks for the long and detailed answer, i ended up robbing his corpse since he had 200 g on him, i'll keep an eye on him if he ends up respawning after i leave the tutorial map. Maybe i'll update this post so anyone interested can read up if he'll end up respawning or not.
afaik he shows up 3-4 times. ez to check tho

the biggest thing you miss out on is the speech-XP, because you can inquire information about his past etc and every dialog option gives speech-XP, which is the hardest to max out. not sure if it´s even possible, bc i havent finished the game.

as player-experience, just watch a yt vid.
additional player-experience: the roads are actually dangerous.

(the unlucky guy was eaten by dogs in my playthrough. lmao rip)
