Combat wild dogs and other "light" opponents in the beginning?
Hi all, love the KCD1 and KDC2!
For some reason I can not even fight off a dog with a sword and shield. Die everytime, lol. It's like my character wont even strike - or I miss constantly. Any tips? Have died from wild dogs now 4 times in a row, lol.

Block then hit after you shake it off.
If unsure on this, try to fight them unarmed, it's not easy but you'll get a hold of it when to block and when to hit.

Thank you @joxertm22 for advice. I tried to block with shield but was eaten every time 😁. Maybe blocking with fists works better. I am in the very beginning so my stats are low. Maybe I should just try to avoid battles until later... Love the open world, but do not seem to be able to handle it, yet 😁
No wait.
Hit the right mouse button as soon as the shield icon appears. The dog/wolf will let you go in a few seconds and then you smack him back with left button.

If you are at the game beginning, then go get some bracers or proper armor so they don't chew up your hand so much you bleed to death. ;)
Basically, do not roam the map much till you get equipped. Do some quests in inhabited areas.

Very good advice right there! Thank you joxertm22! I'll be more careful and try to get some better gauntlets before venturing too far 👍
For wolves and dogs it's parry riposte be a bit passive wait for the them to approach u and press right click when green shield appears then riposte with the left click.
Same strategy with polearms/heavy/sword

Good stuff, thank you @heartnetsky! I had my combat worked out from KCD1 but need to adjust a bit to KCD2 I guess 😁.

Ahh there's quite some adjustment to be made if you're coming from kcd1 (especially Q if u're mouse keyboard player) 1st few hours i played kcd2 I kept punching Q to perfect block and masterstrike lol.
Other than a few mechanic like masterstrikes and parry->riposte(don't be too focused on this) a lot of old kcd1 mechanics are carried over and improved, feinting, attack cancel, and once your combat skill lvl are high enough combos are pretty much doable unlike the kcd1😂😂
Enjoy mate!

Yeah, I'll get into it eventually! 👍
Was just so frustrated by the way I was killed over and over... so I must be doing something wrong, obviously! 😁. I think the key is to revisit my key bindings (mouse + kb). Thanks all for inspiring comments!

just perfect block then hit the dog/wolf, and for more pleasure use bane on the sword, just 1 hit and gone

Ok, that is one good tip, indeed!

I found that increasing my strength and using a better sword made a huge difference.
Having better armor helped as well.
Early game you should focus on black smithing and alchemy to make some starting cash. You don't make a lot right at the start, but with alchemy it doesn't take long to raise your skill enough to take some perks that let you make and sell a lot more. You also don't need to buy recipes if you don't mind using google-you can look up the recipe online, and as long as you have the ingredients you can make the potion even if you haven't "learned" it yet in game. Marigold potions is the way to go- you need them for healing, the ingredients are easy to find around the starting area, and they sell for a decent amount, especially if you take the perks that improve your sell prices and the one's that let you make multiple potions at one time.

As for armor, if you have the patience you can earn enough to buy it selling potions, or you can venture out along the roads and hope you run into lone bandits you have halfway decent chance of defeating. Or, if your lucky you can join in on a fight someone else is already having with bandits and let them do most of the work. I got my first "decent" metal armor pieces by following one of the caravans and looting an armored bandit that they killed for me. Once you have metal arm and leg protection the wolves become a lot easier.

Animals in the game can be a pain, there are a few mods that can help.

Overall combat mod to make combat easier:
Simple Combat (Auto Perfect Block - Master Strike - Evade - Riposte)
https://www.nexusmods.com/kingdomcomedeliverance2/mods/845

Mod that makes dogs, wild dogs and wolves harmless:
Harmless Dogs
https://www.nexusmods.com/kingdomcomedeliverance2/mods/227

Hope that helps!
