I just crouch followed patrols, behind a dude who was last in a patrol. I don't think I bothered wasting time hiding in a bush.
It took me 3 tries to get outside of the initial area, which is in my view the most difficult section of the quest It was rather smooth sailing from there.
However, I absolutely suggest that you make save points every once in a while as it is not worth the effort to restart the mission every time you overextend yourself or just have bad luck and NPC decides to turn around just as you approach them for a stealth takedown.
Another suggest I have for those struggling is to create a safe space in different areas of the mission. You can create safe space by removing few guards or servants by knocking them out and carrying them to some hidden place. Once you create this safe space, you can progress further and if things go wrong, you can come back and hide in this safe space. Just be aware that at certain point, the mission effectively resets and guards/servants will be back at their spots.
I love the thunder storms but rain @ night is total BS, just like KCD1. And it looks horrid, like something from a early 2000s game in that regard.
put on stealth clothing
you dont have to kill anyone in this quest...
ridiculous

wore dark clothing, wandering npcs still basicly followed me, used bushes and out of no where paths. wandering npcs followed me through them. What part of NPCS following me despite what i do is not understood.
I really am not joking when i say im watching the NPCS literally do all the same turns and paths im doing and homing in on me for some odd reason.
If your character has trained enough before this point, you can start engaging patrolling soldiers directly. They call for help and usually 3 or 4 additional soldiers come. You should be able to clear them as they come if you have Warfare and Sword skill high enough, 15+ is my estimation. You want to save before trying this as at times you can bite more than you might be able to chew.
I have replayed this part several times and did it with minimum killing as well as terminator mode where I killed my way through. It is absolutely possible to do it both ways, the only hard time I had was to do completely stealthy options where it was very tricking to get timing in the forest clearing immediately at the start.
