Nighthawk Potion Working Poorly Underground
Is the Nighthawk potion supposed to work poorly while you're in caves/underground? I've had the Nighthawk seemingly stop working a few times while I'm exploring interiors, caves, and tunnels-- you can see in the image linked below, taken in the secret passageway between a certain castle and Apollonia, that I have the Nighthawk active but the screen is basically entirely black.

This happened in a few other areas, too. Is this intentional? Based on some of the instances, I imagine the devs have a specific post-processing volume on caves and certain interiors to help control the lighting, but I'm wondering if those volumes are interfering with the Nighthawk.

Yes, that's true. But sorry to disappoint you, nighhawk works exactly as it supposed to. It's not a night-vision scope. It's more like "light enhancer". You need any source of light to amplify it, there's no such source underground. So nighthawk will work very well in the forest by night, but not in a cave or mine.

I thought that might be the case! As annoying as it is, it's a great adherence to their own rules regarding how the Nighthawk works-- it dilates the pupils, letting more light in. But if there's no light...

Precisely. Still great help in some situations, like playing hide and seek with searching party in Apollonia Especially if it's my favourite variant of hide and seek - the one modified by crossbow and stash of poisoned bolts.

Nighthawk works like those drops your optometrist puts in your eyes when you go for an eye exam. It relaxes the pupilary muscles to allow more light in. It does not allow you to see in total dark.

Indoor lighting has been broken since the first update. It worked very well until then.
Now it's too dark until you get close to objects and then its too bright.

Now you have to pull out the torch, is ok, NPCs don't see any anyways, just stupid.
