Yes something is off with shoes durability after one of the patches.
On the other hand before that patch shoes didn't wear out at all. I remember not being able to repair them just to apply the buff, until I damaged them fighting wolves

Nah - it is like that - but the cobbler's kit lasts like forever so it's a convenient way to grind up your Craftsmanship skill.

There are some perks though that make it less bad.

I guess shoes were just crap back in the day :D

well, I like realistic. I started my first playthrough in HC.

but this really isnt a feature I needed at all. even if the rate was slower, why does this exist at all? what does that bring into the game?
wouldn't good shoes realistically last far longer than what it take to complete the game?
losing durability in combat I get it. plus it can be affected by player skill in combat.
but losing durability by simply going places brings nothing IMO.

anyways, already found a mod that addresses that. I just hope its compatible with an ongoing save :D

whew, first playthrough in HC isn't a great idea though.
Would drive me nuts in various other areas - but then again I picked all 10 bad perks and without knowing the map I would have just given up :D

Bad Back is funny af though

I mean, alchemy is the easiest way to make money early game - having Hal complain about his back is just too funny

I took it specifically because I really didnt like alchemy in the first one.

though I have to admit they made the process feel smoother, in KCD2 it still is too "in depth" and time consuming without being challenging or rewarding.
but thats just me :)

I love alchemy - and afaic it's WAY better in KCD2

Of course they removed auto-brewing because it's basically free money.

But they refined alchemy where doing it manually is super.

You can get sage and mint for free in the Trosko garden, you can farm it up super easy if you take a few shortcuts - it's super free money.

Exactly that. My father used to make his own "leather overshoes" for hunting (for the damping of the sound), made of relativly soft leather - so not the optimal leather when speaking durability. Anyhow, they lasted about 2 years when stalking - would translate to around (2 days * 56 weeks *2 years* approx 3km = 896km - keep in mind on soft underground, on rough asphalt it would be a whole other story - but i guess asphalt was pretty scrace in the 15th century, and if the roads where paved with nature stones with a rather smooth (compared to asphalt) surface, like basalt, porphyry, granite, greywacke.

So on the low end you would most likely get around 90 days of use (when walking 10km a day) with low quality shoes. Which seems reasonable to me, noone would buy a new shoe every 3 days, at this point its would be better to just go barefoot. Do it for half a year and you can go barefoot in your local pub, with broken glass lying on the floor. The big pieces you see, the smaller ones you can just pull out of the horn skin you get (how i know? Go figure^^)

Awesome story :) - love it

But then again there's that miner in Kuttenberg that talks about straw coming out of his shoes so maybe shoes were really ♥♥♥♥ back then?
I really don't know.

Most shoes you get are makeshift to my avail so they suck - once you buy some noble's shoes from a proper cobbler, they aren't too bad in terms of resilience

What annoys me more really is that when you get a high level sword and try to sharpen it manually it's somewhat stuck at 99%
Dunno what that is about - I mean it still gets the razor sharp perk but somehow you can't sharpen it to 100% until you hit 16 in Craftsmanship - afaic it's wonky

^^ This straw coming out of the shoes is a humorus way of saying that you are coming from humble origins. If you ever had a glitter party its basically the same with straw. You will find some of it in your shoes/socks weeks later.

Dunno the term glitter party - but if it's about getting married and some of your relatives throw rice over your bed - been there, done that to my aunt when I was a kid - hence why when I got wed I would have never given my key to anyone :D

Got a really ♥♥♥♥ wedding present from my best friends though - those ♥♥♥♥♥ put 2€ coins into bottle craps, surrounded them with tinfoil, put it in a gas canister and then filled it up with PU foam
Doesn't stop there though - the PU can was broken so I had a sticky mess to work with until I just gave up and I wanted to kill them :D - it REALLY made me angry

That is quite a weird thing to do but it kind of makes sense- it's so hard to get that money out that it will always be there when you REALLY need it.
ok, you play hardcore with the perk that makes your shoes get damaged way faster.
I think you are barking the wrong tree.
