Playing the Oblivion Remastered recently and it's shocking how much better KCD2 is
I hadn't played Oblivion for nearly 20 years, so I forgot almost everything. But I was shocked how there is basically zero roleplaying in Oblivion and most of the quests are basically just fetch quests.

In its time, Oblivion was an extraordinary mix of adventure and graphics, and I loved it. Still do.

However, after playing BG3, where you have the possibility of diametrically opposed endings (and despite its much, much smaller map), I am worried about buying the new version for exactly the reason you state.

It is not KCD2 - which I really like - that has put me in that state of mind. Indeed, I have often found myself wondering why I can't throw my lot in with Sigismund. :)

The original Oblivion sucked. Outdated at the time of it's release, a completely dead game world that did not feel alive in any way. The new one, OTOH, at least has a good game engine, it feels almost exactly like the Skyrim Engine to me. Not far enough into it to judge the overall game quality, but game engine wise and characters, it is far superior to the old Oblivion, only thing I don't like is the menus, INV menu for etc, it is very bland. But characters are pretty well done.

I don't know what you are talking about. The whole game is role playing. There are a lot of great quests if you play through the whole game. You obviously didn't get very far into the game if that is your take. I bet you couldn't even figure out the main quest once you have to decipher the books to continue, without looking online for help.

I'm playing this play through using Speech craft and Persuasion and I'm having a blast. Somewhere a long the way I got turned into a vampire, and trying to get that cured has been some great role playing and lots of fun.

Every time I go into the sun I start smoking and die in about 30 seconds. I'm not using any outside source for help and Oblivion is a great role playing experience.

I'll definitely be playing KCD at some point, but Oblivion is so much better now! :praisesun:

This is quite hilarious because the remaster literally runs on the original engine and mostly original code (with some mechanical tweaks) with UE5 bolted on top for visuals. It even has basically all the bugs from the original.

Oblivion is known 20 years later and got a remaster. KCD2 will likely never have a remaster and people wont be talking about this piece of crap 20 years from now. KCD2 is a 70 hour movie and dialogue simulator with a 3 hour tutorial. In oblivion you are out in the open world in 10 mins...

Yeah the open dead world, the open world where there is nothing other than dogs, wolves and the odd goblin, lmao, the game world is as dead as it was back then, you need to go through a loadscreen door to load up anything different, and then inside you just find enemies standing in place like OLD games used to be forced to do.
you can spit on old elderscroll as you wich, still this games put first stone on your beloved games fondation decades ago

Lol Oblivion blows this out of the water. The quests alone are way more engaging.

KCD II strong-arms Oblivion into an easy submission. Looking forward to the next ES title to see how little they have improved since Starfield and Fallout 4.

Todd should be running in fear of Warhorse :kcdswords: :gwent_gg:

I came to the EXACT same conclusion

Exactly, it used to gave me so much joy now it's totally tasteless, if it's not for this save crash bug on KCD2 i wouldn't touch any TES game again

I dont think anyone's spitting, ofc stuff like the OG Elder Scrolls games paved the way, no one's denying that.

In its time Oblivion was a huge disappointment after Morrowind.
Today remaster is even a bigger disappointment since it failed to be faithful to the original, and at the same time failed to fix issues Oblivion had.

Also even the idea of remastering an old game is obvious cashgrab bs.

Wrong on both accounts. The original and remake are pretty good games. Honestly, Morrowind is a mindless slog. It no aim, no direction. It's not a fun game to play. Oblivion is a HUGE improvement on it. But then, I'm not clouded by nostalgia like most Morrowind fans.
