In both games, but especially in KCD2, I feel like it should be more protective against cutting weapons
I like this too.
Hm, I forgot this, it's 6 years since I played KCD1 last time
KCD1 was amazing, but specific things drove me absolutely nuts. Broken level geometry, awful terrain collision, and a battle system trivialized by master strikes (or utterly broken when not one-on-one on flat ground). Those are all still kind of problems in the sequel, but they're so much better that they don't actively ruin the experience for me.
Ok, but this discussion section is about armor in KCD1 and KCD2 not about the story and gameplay experience of those two games...
In the first game, the mail coif went beneath the cuirass... kind of defeating part of the object of the mail collar: to give protection to the leather straps of the cuirass and shoulder pieces from direct weapon strikes.
