I chose 'Numbskull', 'Hangry Henry' and 'Menace' that doesn't gimp you much at all, just adds a bit of realism.
Just don't tell other people you're playing HC because you will be lying.
I really liked KCD1's HC mode but for the life of me I don't remember picking 3 negative perks.
It was the same in KCD 1
If you pick the same ones that I took then it's not a problem, just balances the game somewhat differently, you will soon forget about them and just get used to it.

Besides, there's 3 that have next to no impact:
Bad Back, Hangry Henry, Menace
Bad Back is for the lols :D - and being hungrier is also quite nice, and Menace doesn't do crap if you don't run around like a lunatic getting caught
1. Bad back- Situational and only effects you for 10-20secs
2. Numbskull- Its negated mostly after you get perks in Scholar if not mitigated its nice to have things level slower.
3. Menace- Can be completely negated by scum saving
So in reality the only thing you will "feel" is bad back. Its funny when it happens its more comical than nuisance.
I'm so bad at navigating, I got even lost knowing that quest by heart by now :D
The lack of an actual compass is the hardest part about the HC mode imo.
But it's a singleplayer game, you can play it how you want! You could simply remove the UI elements you don't want and play the regular mode instead of hardcore as well, just depends on the experience that you particularly desire.
Agreed. And yet, many of the other perks just seem tedious and aggravating. I for one, like HC for the increased immersion and 'realism', not artificial difficulty.
It's the second-worst debuff you can pick, first one being the carry-weight debuff
