There are also many Chinese players who like Hans, but their perspective differs from that of Western societies. Even if male players have fallen for Hans in their hearts, they tend to view Hans as a princess rather than immersing themselves in a gay male perspective. Female players, on the other hand, are similar to their Western counterparts—they love Hans from their own personal identities.

In contrast, Western societies tend to think this way: if you want to praise the relationship between Hans and Henry, your prerequisite must include accepting that they are a gay couple, and what you admire is the relationship between two men.

I am not sure what causes this difference, but I feel that U.S.-centric Western societies are overly focused on cultural wars. Concepts like identity politics and representation have been weaponized and are being overused, leading to two outcomes: supporters treat KCD2 as a symbol of victory, disproportionately exaggerating the homosexual love between Hans and Henry; opponents, on the other hand, see KCD2 as a betrayal, a compromise to the enemy. Since they cannot conveniently express outright hatred toward homosexuality, they resort to questioning historical accuracy, the characters’ actual ages, and, of course, some openly attack homosexuality without disguise.

In China, things are much simpler. Heterosexual male players can just think of Hans as a princess to enjoy the intimacy between the two characters. Since homosexuality does not spark controversy, there are naturally no follow-up debates over historical accuracy or the issue of underage characters.

I didn’t purchase it on Steam. I’ve already completed it three times and played for over 240 hours.

In the Chinese community, KCD2 is purely a topic for players, and no one thinks there’s an issue with homosexuality.

This "controversy" is one of the stupidest things I've ever seen. The game is individual and presents options, so the romance between Henry and Hans exists or does not exist depending on who plays. What emerges from all this is that there are people who are dissatisfied with the fact that people who have different interests than them have this option available. It is not enough for them to have their own option to play, they want others not to have this and that can only be called hatred.

In addition, we used to have "woke", "DEI", and "abnormal", but now they can say it is ahistorical or retconning instead (and they ofcoruse get to decide that the mere existence of minorities is ahistorical and retconning.
